If you are really playing 1-base in SC2 all the time i'm guessing your protoss or rather low placed in the ladder.

"1 base" isn't exactly what I said. I made it to platinum and a lot of my games were still over before either side had made 2 expansions. Try watching pro streams sometime you'll see that's just how the game is.

Anyways, the point I was trying to make was that even though the maps all look different in SC2 it doesn't necessarily mean that games are going to play out differently. In Forged Alliance you have maps with different amounts of mass extractors in different configurations and different layouts for reclaim as well. In Starcraft you have a starting base on a hill with 8 minerals and 2 gas, and a ramp leading to an expansion with the same mineral setup. That's true for almost every map. Also, FA is not like in Starcraft where expanding to a new spot is some big risky thing you only do once every few minutes, you are literally trying to take as much of the map in FA as you can all the time. These are some of the biggest differences between the 2 games IMO.

Hear, hear.

The only game i havent played online, is CoH. But that doesn't matter because CoH has easily the best singleplayer experience (CoH>SC2>SupCom).

TBH you cant really compare the games. Sure they are all RTS but everyone is focusing on a different aspect. Starcraft is hard on the macro and game mechanic side. If you cant keep up the production and your macro you're going to loose vs someone who can. SupCom is about map control and tactical decision when it comes to unit movement. I guess CoH is realy affected by its "special" eco system and is about deciding when and where to engage and capture a specific target, positioning yourself for that fight etc..

The one thing i can say about SC2 vs SupCom is which one is better supported. IIRC FA-beta Players where mostly high rated 1v1 player like Bluescreen or Loui. And you can see that FA has a great balance for 1v1 on 5x5/10x10 maps. But as soon as you hit t3, you see all this unfinished and unbalanced stuff (T3 Air OP, T3 land UP vs exp (buildtime), T3 arty, useless exp etc. etc.). I have not seen one thing in SC2 that is as utterly useless as a Novax.

SC2 had a lot of feedback and an active Dev with a huge bank. Thats why its the better game for esports. SupCom had this great UI idea and then a medi-core Dev with not much money. Vanilla was not a good game imo. They never really could change it and made it even worse with t2 bots. I guess they reacted to alot of feedback for FA because its basically a complete overhaul and made the game rather good.

And thats why i think SC2 is the better game. It's better balanced and plays better. You have 3 different Races that actually play different (not 3 times the same with a different model and fire animation) and a huge sucess in esports that allow for entertainment. I don't enjoy playing it though because i feel out of control with my low skill.

There's only one reason why i enjoy playin SupCom. That is large scale T1/T2/T3 battles over all of the map to fight for +2 mass income while you zoom out and can control everything. Or in words from the internet:

Supreme Commander is an insane clusterfuck of an RTS which has skyrocketed to fame in the RTS community for what is apparently it's only redeeming quality: the Strategic Zoom feature.

Vs FA - FA is much closer to a "traditional" RTS where you can and will be making buildings all over the place. You'll make defenses and shields and artillary and have siege wars. In CoH/DoW for the most part you just have your base in the corner, and out in the field you're just controlling units, but your units in CoH/DoW are a lot more complex, with more abilities and upgrades. You can think of them more as tactics games, more about positioning and using spells, while FA is more about strategy, how many guys to send where and what to build and where.

Starcraft 2 - It's one of the games to play if you're dreaming big. Personally I got a little bored of it after a while. Sure, all the maps look different, but a lot of the games you'll have won't go beyond 1 base with a ramp + maybe an expansion vs another and they end up playing exactly the same. Also, it's fast and hard to play. I wouldn't call that a fault, it's a part of the design, but if you try to pick it up just be aware that you'll have to put in a lot of practice time just to be able to keep up with the engine. The game is really volatile too, and often huge swings that turn the game in the favor of one person or another will happen in a matter of seconds. Makes it more fun to watch, but I found it really frustrating that half my army could be wiped out because I had to go manage my base for a few seconds.

Vs FA - In FA you're going to have people all over the map, trying to get everything. It won't just be your base on one side and their base on the other with units running a bee-line between them, you'll be fighting for things all over the map all the time. To me that's a lot more interesting. And the battles take time. You're not going to lose a ton of guys instantly just because one of your groups ran into the wrong unit. So if you like the thrill of constantly high risk / high reward gameplay, or you want a chance at the spotlight, Starcraft might be for you, but if you want a game that's not so much about "crazy shit" happening and you really want to see one strategy play out against another, you might like FA more.
