In TS, that's would be

-0-500, 500-1000, 1000-1500, 1500-2000+

Knowing that a 250 difference (when you've got a white rating) means 80% of winning over your opponent, I think we are more way precise and objective than PT (anybody with some friends was "good" or "great" :)

But of course, again, if you put someone who hates big maps and navy on ranaoke, he will not perform well. It's just a tool, not a universal reference.

For these things PT was better than the actual rating, even if PT had its flaws.

You shouldn't rely on the rating to balance the game.

Yesterday we had to rehost a game after a few seconds, because a player with a 18xx rating was playing worse than a beginner with 100 rating.

You're better off with knowing how the players really play. It's incredible but I actually see players making the additions of all rating on both sides in lobby, and then complain. So ridiculous.

p sure if they had a white 100 score they probably suck - if he was a beginner then it was definitely black and that means the rank doesnt mean anything like zep said. balancing games is a good idea but you can't really count black ratings

You are not supposed to earn points from each game. The goal is to find everyone relative skill to each other. Once found (white in the lobby), it won't move that much.

In fact, if you play a perfectly balanced game, it won't move at all (both team have 50% chances of winning, so the outcome is not relevant to adapt the rating).
You can see that in the ratio of the 1v1 matchmaker : most of the players have about 50% win (except really good and really bad players), but not the same rating. That's how a good matchmaker is supposed to works.
That's also why win ratio is completely irrelevant to estimate a player skill.

The system (1v1 ot global) is NOT a ladder.

As I said, the more confident the system is in that rating, the whiter it will be.
Don't even bother read or consider dark ones.

A 2200 or -200 dark rating has the same relevance for the system and will affect the game the same way.

The balance of a game and the best team combination, based on rating, is easy to compute.
It's in fact already computed, but it's hard finding place to show it in the current lobby display.

I don't think this is necessary. If people who are out of the skill bracket join then they can be asked to leave, or kicked if needed. We have a small community of awesome people, so limiting it too much is a bad idea. :)

this is rght, but if u fight a 0 0, and u are a 763 23, the ratings points eaned won't be true, so at least we should set a way to earn point, in each game the amount of the raitings of a team shouldn't be too diffrend from the 2nd team one's

however, not evrybody host noob or nonoob games, so it won't be too used

personally, i've never hosted a limited game, i always accept evryone ;)

It's not because it's dark that the player is not that good. It means that he is maybe that good.
While a white rating means that the player is most likely that good.

That depend how relevant the rating is (black or white). That will probably not work to balance a game.

finally i've tunderstood the maening of the colour of the rating!!! so, a black raiting is not revelant and a white raiting is revelant? i'm right?

afterall 2 player, forst with dark grey 500 rating, 2nd with white 500 rating, have the same experience and they do both a good game, i've never seen an black dark higt rated losing on a white one...

It would be cool if host can set the rating limit in his game, he should be able to set that only players with a rating between 600 and 1000 can join his game, or that can join whoever have a rating higher than 1000, or lower than 100 , it would be helpfull to set kind of games, having more balanced games, who don't have the required Rating should see somwhere (maybe where, when used, the name of a mod is displayed, under the number of players, or when he click to connect in the game an error message should appear, or at last the lobby should kik him auto) the error message.
i hope u like my suggestion ;)
