I have noticed this recently and was wondering if it was by design or was a bug that it wsn't possible to fix. The 'issue' - If units have targeted a visible unit, they will continue firing and tracking it even if it is no longer visible to them, ie the unit left radar range or entered a stealthed area.

If you sent torpedo bombers to snipe an acu which teleports out the torps alter course and travel to the new position of the commander. If far away they will self-destruct before getting there but you are still gaining intel there as to where the acu jumped too.

It also works with sub torpedos and the most concerning of all merci shells. Once mercies have fragmented into shells if the acu teleports at that stage before they hit, then merci shells will travel to the new commander location. It takes about 30 secs before they self-destruct. I have seen someone die to this.

this is by design, alternatively we could make units lose target when enemy unit is no longer seen. but people argue that it would be a nightmare, imagine bomber making a 1rst pass and then losing his target and idling.
But right now people often abuse that. They "lock" on enemy transports or on acu that is about to teleport somewhere or cloak/stealth acu is seen for a second and strats are locked on him even tho he is cloaked...
losing target sounds like a tempting thing to implement (would need to increase intel capabilities of some units then), but people like supcom to have less micro.

Yeah I can see it wouldn't be an easy fix, especially for fast moving units and especially bombers that need to have long strafing runs.
