I wouldn't think i'm a noob : Some years ago, i've been playing in the top french clan (Wki which was renamed RIP) which was of course not that good compared to other international clans (but still there were some good players like Beetlejuice who is now in SCL) and i have 80% victories on GPGnet (i only played 20 games but f*** i'd love to have that ratio in Starcraft 2 :P ).

I started playing again like 1 week ago, and 2-3 players called me a fucking noob so i suppose i must be kinda bad right now :) .
My main problem is that i don't know what to do strategically speaking : Do i have to spam T1 ? Should i drop ? Should i make Air ? Do i get t2 ? Should i go to get t3 immediatly after that ? I usually choose to much options and i do everything together and it doesn't really work.
Also i have difficulties adapting my play to 1v1,2v2,3v3,4v4 or FFA etc. (Spamming T1 or teching ?)

During the week, i can play from 6pm to 7am french time (lol). During the week-end, always ^^.
My in-game name is KVP (and Blaze_Be in GPGnet). I'm from belgium so i can speak french, flemish and english.

So PM me or send me an email to [email protected] i you wish to play some games with me ;)

Been playing to and fro (mostly fro) since the days of Total Annihilation but it's mostly been the campaigns and skirmishes against the AI. Never really got into the multiplayer part of it since there's such a huge wall to climb to get any good at this game and most of my attention has been directed elsewhere.

I'd like a mentor to help bring me over the wall from skirmish player to multiplayer. I can usually beat the sorian AI:s, so I'm not completely clueless, just almost. ;)

I'm located in Sweden by the way, but I'm fairly decent at english so any english speaking mentor will be fine.

Co-Op Gaming.

I have uploaded another 4 TeamPlay maps to the FAF Vault…

Dragon Walls TeamPlay
20 x 10
Land Battle - Restrict Air [if Air allowed AI will be weaker]
AI starts in far right [East]

Fort_Rockstone TeamPlay
20 x 20
Land/Naval Battle - Restrict Air [if Air allowed AI will be weaker]
AI starts in mid bottom [South]

Battle for Ham TeamPlay
20 x 10
Land/Air/Naval Battle
AI can start in either side at top and bottom of isle

Stairway To Heaven TeamPlay
10 x 10
Land/Air Battle
AI starts in right [East]

TeamPlay maps are designed to provide a good battle against teamed Non-AIX AIs in 2v2AI.
Sorian AIX AI will be almost impossible to beat on these maps under FAF, because the cheat multiplier is at max [2x] and cannot be changed.
If Air is allowed on a Water map the AIs will build 10 airports between them, and upgrade them all to T3, this will greatly affect the strength of AI naval build. Also the room taken by those airports will have a detrimental affect on the AI Land build.

First of all: Players that want to improve should
critically assess themselfes and invest time to improve
and understand the game.

I believe an assessment should include below aspects/thoughts:

In principle the whole game is all about
attack/defensive force versus economy.
Scouting is the key here, it will tell you what to do.

Games are often not decided solely because of the above
though!
Often (new) players do not eco as good as others, or make
wrong attack/defensive force. If one wants to improve this
should be recognized (in game or lateron in a replay) and
be improved.

For example: Building a lot of T2PD on an important part
of the map maybe completely useless if your opponent is
about to attack with air or navy. Better prepare a lot
of build power and/or make shields to be able to react
when you know what to expect.

I'd say building a good economy is not as hard as building
a good attack/defensive force. The latter requires
knowledge of much more units/situations.

If your economy and army/defensive building skills are good
you definitely took the first and most important step to
becoming a good/better player!

That leaves the other reasons for losing:
- snipe/surprise attack
- wrong tradeoff attack/defensive force versus economy
- micro management
- team play

In general the first 2 options can be avoided by improved
scouting.

micro management can be improved by working with shortcuts
(see also GAZ-UI mod), mini map, etc...
Make sure to simply do more or divide your attention better
between attacking, defending and eco building.

For example: A common mistake with air (especially with T3 ASF)
is to not constantly control your ASFs to get on the opponents
tail.

To the pros out there:
for me, the most difficult part of the game is eco management...
Do you have principles you try to follow in order to optimize it?

Let's see.

Small maps or medium maps, close spots = focus fights, you start off spamming t1 as much as you can. your eco stays mostly t1 mexes, you benefit from wrecks. Raids and map control are very important.

Medium maps, distant spots = couple of t1 facs and/or air (depends on team agreement), focus on not losing your map side. Tech one or two mexes to t2 after you've gotten all the mass deposits and have started reclaim things (if available). Moderate t1 army is needed to protect your ACU early on. After some t2 mexes you're going t2 land, optional t2 or gun ACU, and start pushing. If you are being pushed, fast t2 landfac provides you with t2 engie which builds t2 PDs.
Remember very important rule here: if enemy builds t2 PDs, you do nothing but eco. BUT if he's developing a pd creep against you, you should buld t2 mobile missile launchers (2-5 should be enough if no enemy shields/tmd). Switch to regular force after.

Large maps = mainly focus on eco, you can fully skip t1 land starting it from t2 after some t2 mexes. Air is important. Don't let your enemy raid distant mass stops and raid yourself. It is viable rushing t3 land once you have all t2 mexes and making early drops on unprotected bases. For example, two bricks can rape a base with no ACU in there. Either way, you can also rush t3 air. Depends on the situation, you can start with air scout and 1-2 bombers, or spam asfs, dominate the air and start picking off stuff with gunships/bombers.

Naval maps = get naval fac ASAP. 2nd or 3rd engie goes for it, then you build couple of frigs and send them to enemy side. Your goal is to get a fring on enemy side BEFORE he finishes his naval fac, this makes your chances to win jump really high. You still can loose tho. To avoid this, stop building ships (if the situation on sea is still unclear, put one or two torp launchers next to your fac) and spend all your mass on teching up. While doing so, have one fac spamming engies near you naval fac. After some t2 mexes (3-4-5, depends on mass spots you posses) stop ecoing and get a t2 naval fac. Then make destro and cruiser and resume ecoing (without stopping building ships). Naval wrecks is your aim. Let enemy little closer, attack, win the fight, suck mass, repeat until you won the sea. T2 air is what you shouldn't be hesitating to make. Trop bombers are VERY helpful if you are being slowly pushed back or the situation looks even. And never forget to eco.

This is my play style. As you can see, I focus on reclaiming and outecoing opposing player or the entire team, if they let me
Of course this is not complete how-to-play guide or I might have missed some important moments, and some may argue on its compliance as well. But you loose nothing from trying. 8-)
