So, I think it's just too much from us, to ask you to set the example.
As long as they are reasonable in quality and quantity(and with you I am more than certain that they will be), go on, don't
worry.
I say put ads, even if they aren't absolutely necessary, and make you some extra cash. ;)

I know right, it's almost like I was explaining things to someone that asked a question answered in the first post 1 - 3 (depending on how you count) posts above me.

Cause if that's the case, it makes complete sense to restate the OP in other words to aid understanding to someone that missed it the first time round. Consequently making your post look kinda odd.

Ah well, I guess I'm just dumb and like repeating things.

Besides, monies is always welcome, even if it's only a little! (And for those who really hate ads even if it helps FAF, there's always adblock...)

I can't answer the exact costs obviously, but the why was already answered (and fairly easy to deduce).

As stated, the main reason why is to see how much moolah the ads generate. If it's only netting a few pennies, it's going to be dropped. But if it's rolling in millions, I bet zep will be willing to keep it even if it pisses off 100% of the player base -if it keeps racking in the millions.

Now there is some middle ground that takes analysis to decide how much community irking is worth in money. If it pays for half the server, is it worth irking 1% of the community. I say yes, but that's another zep answer. The 1% is of course arbitrary (as was how much money is generated) so we need to peg in some actual numbers.

So he's running a test. How much money is being made, and how much irk is being generated. The easiest way to do this is to just launch an ad for a bit and poll us afterwards. Thus both variables are quantified and he can do an analysis to decided if it's worth it.

QED.

Congrats! You just said the exact thing the OP is about!

my question is: how much do you need to keep the server running and all the basics. including lobby and balance testing and so on..
how much do you need to make GW?
how much do you need to make contests?

maybe you split it up and people pay for that thing they want to keep in the future.
your work would in this way go into the direction people would like to have it. also in an tournament it would be something like a jackpot. the winners (1st, 2nd & 3rd place) get what all the contestors threw in (expect a percentage that goes to the tournament directors..

+1

Read the OP : It's just a test.

I did. but it does not make sense.
\irony_on: next week you can test what happens if you take ten times the amount of ads. and check if it makes ten times the outcome. i do not mind if there are ads anywhere.
\irony_off

but why testing this when there is a question like: how deep in need are you?
why testing ads when there is no need to?

i mean, in our city it was said that they are against fracking. but now they just frack (somone allowed it somehow, even the city says "dunno") to look if there is something. just checking.. and if they find something? do they ask then again? do they say: hey, we know there is something but if you are against it, we of course leave it where it is. haha.
you know what i mean, yes?
if they look for it, and find something, they will not ask again, they will start mining it.
why use ads if there is no need to?
