Again, when you have all maps unchecked, you can consider that you have all the top maps selected.

Just select the maps you like and don't try to cheat the system. It's working fine as it is.

What I meant, though, is that whilst the player's selection has no influence on the top voted map, the player's selection would affect which one out of the top voted map they would get..., but again that just be my confusion.

I guess my question is, if I have checked Loki and Open Palms and they are also the most popular maps on the list, would I ever get them against a player that has all map unchecked?

Thanks for the reply.

The caveat to that argument is that from the perspective of the person that hasn't selected anything it might be better with no map selection, but from the person choosing it isn't.

Furthermore, having no map selection make you play the top voted maps more often, but it would be the top voted maps that the ticked player hasn't already checked, that is, if I tick 99% of the maps I'm bound to get one that is less popular? I'm not too sure what the protocols are if I have chcked the top ~15 most popular maps...

Either way, thanks for your response,

You do a lot of assumptions that are mostly false.

What the players have selection has no influence on the top voted map. At all. (except that their vote contribute to the list).

Having no map selection make you play the top voted maps more often.

The second solution is probably the best one for default.

I simply believe that there is nothing to lose but all to gain from having the default settings as all maps checked.

The intuition behind this idea is simple. Consider a person who doesn't care what map they get, and so they do not select any map, and one that has ticked 15+ maps. With the current system a player making a preference would automatically be 'penalised' and drawn to play a map that he/she does not want to, for merely making a preference. In the alternative scenario with the default of all maps selected, both players get what they want. In fact, if an individual is indifferent between the maps then a good way to guarantee that the opponent doesn't get a map they want/are strong at is to un-check all maps.

Leaving intentionality aside, I believe that by default, all maps should be selected, so that when faced with people who don't care about their map pool individuals that do make a choice won't be unnecessarily disadvantaged.

I may have missed something here, so do enlighten me if you find that what I wrote is questionable.

N.B. to be honest, I think this is quite a minor issue. I'm not sure about the percentage of individuals who play 1v1 and leave it on default settings so it is difficult to ascertain the extent to which this issue matters.
