Balance will be a nightmare (I like FunkOff's idea of using Attack Points, but I fear it will boil down to accumulating points and then steamrolling your opponent)

I stalked a little bit today and afaik there is only 2 metagames like GW:

-Phoenix worx (the successor of TA's Boneyard)
-Planetwars (Spring's Boneyard)

It's a niche and while the idea is beyond great it's never been used in games. So WE have to build it almost from scratch :/

Now there are multiple problems. The first I see is being noob-friendly.
It's quite tempting to do a simple map with X planets. When Y games are won on a planet it goes to a side...and so on until one faction win or lose the map.
On Planetwars it's done like that. The result? Noob-bashing, uneven teams and all new players are going after 2-3 matches.
Phoenix Worx add an option to be a trainee and grind some victory-points before playing for real. Why not.

I am not a MMO nor a Webgame player but those games add multiple layers for every type of players. Galactic Wars should do the same. Having basic 1vs1 games but also 2vs2 and 3vs3, survivals, mods, Player Vs IA games.
And even a little something without playing FA...like every day you gain a command point you can put on a contested planet to ease the actual battle. So you can help your faction without playing FA.

METAGAME...it's all in the word. A game in the game :)

I also had some thoughts on GW:

The original GW was 4 factions: Cybran, UEF, Aeon, Seraphim.

I think that would not work with FAF, because it splits a small community in 4 parts.

I would prefer having only 2 sides:

The Forged Alliance: UEF, Cybran (Brackman's people), Aeon (the good Aeon)

The Invaders: Seraphim, Cybran (aroun Hex), Aeon (fanatic Aeon)

only Seraphim and UEF would be exclusive...

We could just start the Galactic War with only 3 sides.... and introduce seraphim later on. I like that idea better. Heck, if you consider the early, pre-supcom times, you cound conceivably just have UEF vs Aeon, and only add Cybran as a playable faction later, because they didn't always have an army.

I was never trying to look down or criticize the fact you guys have loads you wish to do already i just wanted to help the process with this discussion showing key areas you would focus work on when you come to designing it helping narrow down the work in a manor of speaking.

sorry if i offended u.

But it'd be worth a lot if Commlink offered to help us test stuff, especially in the early phases. (which are coming... brace yourselves). It's really a lot of work though.

And we always need skilled people to help with the actual implementation of things.

I figured to help out i would post my proposal here fore all to see, and the guys of faf can then debate features an stuff that would interest them. The developers of course getting to make the final choice on what they do, but could be a lot fun.

My original proposal i just rambled much like i'm doing now with lots of ideas all coming out at once, but will try to make it flow better.

Basically its an intergalactic map displaying planets with names taken from the single player of supcom, FA and supcom 2 and through in some TA planet names for fun.

Each planet has set specific maps e.g an ice planet has ice maps, water worlds have mostly water and so on (you could even put short story's about each world for people to read more in depth feel using supcom or TA for material).

Each faction holds say like 10 planets with an overlay of the factions colors e.g. green for Aeon, blue for UEF, etc.
clicking on a planet will bring it forward and display current statics:

Planet Name
Terrain type
Current Ruling Faction e.g. Aeon 51%
UEF 40% of battles
Sera 0% of battles
Cybran 0% etc
this planet was last player on between Name and Name with Name for the Faction winning

If the current ruling faction would be aeon and battle takes place on this planet between UEF(49%) and Aeon(51%) and UEF wins a percentage goes towards UEF(51%). The faction with most victory's won according to % on the planet gains control so the planet then becomes UEF and the galactic map changes accordingly to reflect its new owner.

To keep things form going out of control e.g. taking control of a sector in the middle of cybran space, factions would only be allowed to make fights on border worlds which have little to offer. To push into another factions area you need to conquer a world and make it your factions planet allowing you to attack a different planet on the new border. This would create a dynamic and ever changing universe for battle of control.

on a side note for getting a successful winning battle and taking over a planet medals could be awarded, different medals for each planet played and won on so it builds up a service like record or career within a certain faction.

you could also send out an email to players who signed up with a set certain faction telling them if they lost of gained territory

ok rambling again haha.
A lot of my ideas are far fetched i know, but I'm interested in what others think especially the different concepts. We might be able to make it easier by discussing this now on the devs of FAF so they can see what the community would enjoy and see what they can and can not do.

any ways just a fan, play nice and try not shoot all of my ideas down think about them at least and look at solutions :)..
