Did the 16bit/44.1k thing, but he still crashes. He also apparently doesn't hear any music until about 20 minutes into the game.

Is the PC overclocked at all? If so, restore it to stock clocks. And sometimes cleaning off all the munge from the motherboard and heatsinks can do wonders. Try reseating the RAM, or moving it to a different bank if possible.

Generally there are many many options to exhaust before one can conclude that the system is on its last legs.

Crashing after 20-40 minutes in game

Hello,

This isn't really a problem of mine, it's for a friend I'm reporting this. Essentially he crashes about 20-40 minutes into a game. Sometimes this varies though ; we were able to completely finish a match one time and sometimes he crashes after just 5 minutes. It doesn't seem to have any pattern.

I've already tried updating all of his drivers, we reinstalled about 5 times (and tried on different drives), but whatever we do, he keeps crashing.

The crashing itself consists of the whole screen freezing up. The music stops but a sound effect keeps looping; that's the only thing he can hear. Sometimes he can tab out successfully and close the program, but most of the time he has to restart his entire computer.

He has an AMD X4 845 , Asus A88XM-A and a GTX 960 if it helps.
