Mobius,

can you please go back to 0.16.0 and follow instructions in this wiki article: http://wiki.faforever.com/index.php?tit ... ics_Engine to set rendering to angle?

Hey Duke

I reinstalled the normal 0.16.0 version and like before it froze the tabs. When I changed the values to set rendering to angle, everything started working perfectly fine after restarting the FAF client!

On a side note: The 0.16.1-rc.1 version is also working perfectly, even without manually setting the values to angle.

If you need anything else, let me know :)

I have different problems with the 0.16 client .

Using Windows 8.1 (6.3.9600)
AMD/ATI 7850, display driver 13.152.1.8000

With that display driver, when at the logon screen the display driver crashes. From the event log "Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered." At the same time the FAF client freezes and can only be stopped by Task Manager.

Seems solved with 0.16.1-rc.1!

So the changes I needed to make are potentially very minor - please test this new test client: https://ci.appveyor.com/api/buildjobs/2 ... -win32.msi

If it doesn't work and complains about something mentioning ANGLE, libEGL / libGL, oder d3dcompiler_xx.dll, please install DirectX Redistributables: https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/downloa ... px?id=8109 and try again.

Hello Duke

I tested it out and it is functioning perfectly :)! All the tabs are functioning like they should as far as I can tell. You're a lifesaver! What exactly was changed :)?

I'll be providing another test client as soon as I can get around to preparing it that has another approach to fixing the issue. Hopefully over the weekend at the latest.

Hello,

our suspicion is that this is a problem with the new Qt5 version and the OpenGL handling in Windows / some GPU drivers.

Here is a client version that cuts out all components that require OpenGL and should therefore run completely without it and possible won't have the problem: https://ci.appveyor.com/api/buildjobs/0 ... -win32.msi

Cutting out these components of course means that they are not available. This includes: The news page, the leaderboard page, tournaments, unit-db, and the map vault.

If you have the "client rendering freezes" problem, please test this client version and report your experience.

Hello DukeOfEarl

I just installed and tested the modified client version 0.16 that you provided.
It works exactly like you thought. Lobby is not freezing anymore and working like it should. All the tabs that rely on OpenGL that you mentioned (News, mod vault, etc.) are just empty.
The other ones (chat lobby, play, etc.) are working fine now, so it seems like you are correct :)!
What does this mean for us? Anything we can do?

Kind regards
MobiusBE
