I am having decent success when underclocking my GPU as far as it will go. Don't know why, but... if I set GPU to normal, crash, underclock... don't wanna jinx it...

I was away for a while and after a long list of posts, you still not removed back your GPU and tested with your iGPU

i suggest you 'Just Do it' , unless we'll never know if it's from your motherboard.

For your GPU test with Afterburner, can you 'Just do it' the lowest underclock possible and run a test ?

I'll gladly set my GPU to fixed clock and test tonight. How do I do this?

MSI Afterburner only lets me overclock/underclock but doesn't set the GPU to a fixed clock. I can't adjust my voltage either because that is locked on 670 GTX cards.

What tool do I need to set my card at a fixed clock?

Edit: Read your link... Hmm, so debug mode in Nvidia control panel does this?

As i said before; If you use games that will have high GPU use, then it will NOT crash.
But if you use Supcom, where the card can go in powersavestate and resume to a higher state if you click something, then it WILL crash.

So yes, its crashing because SupCom does not use the full power of your card.

Could you Please Please Please now test to set a fixed GPU clock ??????
(Alsto unerclock your GPU Card as much as possible and see if the error still occours)

Yep, I've read about the black screen entries and discovered an awesome utitlity overclockers, etc. use to check their hardware for defects. It is quite comprehensive and called OCCT, and even tests your GPU and GPU memory. Attached to this post are the results.

My motherboard is an Asus P8Z77-V PRO.

As you'll see in the results, no errors were found.

I could also check with the GPU manufacturer forums.

You still haven't said what your motherboard is, or whether it has an integrated graphics chipset (you have only stated that you have a 3770K CPU). I would install drivers for the integrated GPU and verify you have correct settings in bios to use it, and that your PC will boot using that card. Then remove your Nvidia 670 GTX and try running Supcom. Even if you have to turn down resolution and its horrible and clunky. You are simply testing to see if you can black screen it. If you can, then your Nvidia card is in the clear and its most likely your motherboard. I am ruling out your PSU as you have replaced that twice (and I noted blamed it on the PSU once).

There seem to be plenty of google entries relating to black screens with this video card. I'm presuming you've looked at these.

For me (with my radeon 290X) the same thing happened but occurred randomly when browsing (Chrome only) and writing word documents i.e. non-intensive applications. Sometimes soon, sometimes it took hours (I was writing reports for hours..ugh). I think this was due to the card dropping in voltage. I tried various firmware upgrades which set a greater power draw and they helped a little. If it is a particular manufacturers version of an Nvidia 670 GTX you could try checking and see if there is a particular firmware upgrade for it.

However my card still black screened occasionally. In my case it didn't happen with any other games either. For you it may be a different cause but I still think its most likely to be graphics card related (e.g. card fan dropping in speed?). Although it manifests playing Supcom, Supcom is most definitely not the cause (no one else is complaining about it), and there may be other applications you simply haven't tested (for long enough) which may black screen.

The alternative is you just give up playing FAF of course...but I think you will start seeing black screens with something else eventually.

Also, I noticed the following happened yesterday after the last line item in another entry:

Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

So the display driver is crashing. Why? And why does only Supcom do it? Why do my other games not crash the display driver?

Because hardware issues typically manifest themselves in multiple applications. Witcher 3, Dark Souls 1 - 3, X3 Albion Prelude, flight simulators such as DCS, Rise of Flight, Falcon BMS, X-Plane 10, Flight Simulator X etc. the list is huge, and none of them crash like supcom does. I would be fine accepting that Witcher and Souls don't tax the CPU so much as Supcom does, but the flight sims? I know they do. And they don't crash.

And I know Witcher 3 and Dark Souls 3 tax the crap out of the GPU. Supcom isn't GPU intensive, is it? I thought it was mostly CPU.

I don't have another GPU to try, other than an older 270 GTX which... is beyond outdated. Is the iGPU that come with the 3770k powerful enough to run Supcom?

I've checked my RAM, moved my sound card to a different slot. Wouldn't a bad rail for the GPU manifest itself in some of those more intense games?

Have you tried another Gpu or your on board graphics yet? If you try that and it still black screens it's your motherboard. I don't see how you can possibly think its not your PC. You could also make sure your ram is clipped in properly and that there isn't an issue with your PCIe rail by moving it to another slot.

Well, moving the soundcard didn't help either. Just crashed on an 8-way me vs. AI FFA on a 40x40 map.

This is fucked. And I'm having a hard time believing my computer is the culprit given everything I've changed.

I can say with 100% certainty it is not my overclock now. I turned the overclock off, ran core temp logging to monitor, and at time of supcom crash my temps were normal, as well as voltages.

So it isn't my CPU, and my motherboard BIOS is updated, so the only thing left could be the GPU?

I use one monitor, though have my television hooked up as a clone. I turned off my overclock for when I play supcom and am going to attempt that.
