The game is still crashing at different points.

Last 2 things i would do:

1. Remove 4 of your 6 rams (only run the PC wih 2x4GB)
2. Resinstall Windows.

I am sorry that i can't help more :/

Sorry for the long delay. Thanks again Uveso for the help!

So, today, I tried a game with no sound and some games with the mod (option set to 2 or 3) while keeping my video settings at low.

Unfortunately, none of these could have fixed the issue. Whether the action phase freezes or the whole game freezes then crashes. Here are the replays and logs just in case:

2019-07-20-Crashes.7z

Also, during last weekend, I had the chance to test it with a Radeon R7 250. Unfortunately, the game also ended up being frozen or even worse, the PC getting a BSoD.

Any other suggestion would be welcome.

Cheers!

Download this mod:
http://faforever.uveso.de/AdvancedLOD-V1.zip

Install the mod in your modfolder.

Then open this file:
Code:
\Mods\AdvancedLOD\hook\lua\system\Blueprints.lua

Inside the blueprint.lua you can set the options for dispaying low/highres unit textures in line 20:
Code:
local LODoptions = 1

Options are:
Code:
-- 0 diabled
-- 1 low / Units will be hide by size if zoomed out. Using High and Low resolution textures and models
-- 2 high / Units hide by size and ony use highres textures and models.
-- 3 full / Units will never hide, and only use highres textures and models.

Option 1 is using low and highres textures.
The Game can crash while switching between the texture resolution

Option 2 and 3 are using only highres textures for units.
This is using less memory becasue the lowres textures are not used and will maybe more stable becasue it will not switch between resolutions.

----

It's also possible that a crash is casued by the sound driver.

This is easy to test, just disable sounds with a command line parameter:

Please make a Desktopshortcut from the file:
Code:
C:\ProgramData\FAForever\bin\ForgedAlliance.exe

Edit the shortcut and add "/nosound" to the filepath like this:
Code:
C:\ProgramData\FAForever\bin\ForgedAlliance.exe /nosound

Thanks for your reply! Here is a screenshot of my settings further to your suggestion:

Video_Options.png

Unfortunately, the issue happened during a test game. :( Logs below in attachment:

I haven't tried them at "high" since it lags in some maps.

Best regards,

I was going to comment on one of the earlier choices you made concerning moving to MEDIUM textures. I would suggest you see if the errors continue with LOW textures. Backwards support of certain textures by later versions of DirectX make the medium textures of FA less than stable - and it's quite random. Our group over at The LOUD Project used to run into these same issues repeatedly a couple of years back, never suspecting that might be a possible cause. Switched to LOW or HIGH textures and that particular issue went away.

Anyhow, just thought I'd throw that out there.

The good news is that there was no errors during the memtest and the bad news is that there were no errors during the memtest:

2019-06-30-MemTest86.png

Other tests I could do, but I'm not sure it would be relevant/useful, what do you think?

•Test with my other GTX 550 Ti (yes, I have two of them, but using only one in my PC at a time)
•Test the video card in the other PCI-E slot

Concerning the fresh install of Windows, I remember when reinstalling it (Windows 10 Home x64), it didn't show the menu where we can format and create partitions on the disks. It seems to overwrite Windows over what's already installed since when it was complete, there were some files left which aren't part of Windows. Should I try to format the SSD completely and reinstall W10?

Also, could there be any privacy setting in Windows causing this issue?

Thanks!

Sounds like hardware issue at this point. I would install memtest86 (not memtest86+) on a USB stick and test RAM after booting from USB stick. Also make sure you try without any 3rd party anti-virus program.

Good idea. It might take a while before I try it, but I'll let you know the results once done. Thanks!

nice that you changed your gfx card. So we can say its not the card itself.

The crashlog shows what we already know:
Code:
EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at address 0x006791e2
EXCEPTION_PRIV_INSTRUCTION (0xc0000096) at address 0x00546864

Like before, the game crashes at random memory addresses.
Nothing that can be traced :(

In addition to my last reply, I'd like to add this:

Today, I replaced my GTX 550 Ti by a GTX 275 for test purposes.

The result is still the same. Here are the crash logs and replay in attachment (specifically while using the GTX 275 without MSI Afterburner).

As usual, any ideas and help is always appreciated.

Thanks!

I tried with Afterburner. However, I don't know how to proceed with it. I don't see an option to keep the GPU clock fixed at a certain value or to avoid any power state switch.

No matter what I do, it tends to change the GPU Clock as well as the Mem Clock.

However, somehow, I haven't had a crash for many games, but I just got two in a row a few minutes ago (logs of the first one in attachment):
2019-06-23-SupCom-Crash-01.zip

If you are curious, here are screenshots of my MSI Afterburner settings. Unfortunately, I didn't go step by step (I should have though). If I remember correctly, I only checked "Forced constant voltage" and I overclocked the Core Clock from 900 MHz to 936 MHz.
2019-06-23-MSI_Afterburner.zip

My video settings in game are set to medium. Otherwise, if I set them at high, it will cause the FPS to drop in bigger maps.

•Is there any guide I could follow to use Afterburner correctly in order to fix my issue?
•Would it be pretty much of an overclocking job? I'm really not familiar with this.

Any further help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Only in case it's the gfx card; Driver version 314.22 was the latest driver that worked with powerstate switching.

Many thanks for your quick reply and the warm welcome! :)

Did you hear a windows "ping" sound while this happened ? (nvidia driver crashed)

No, I haven't. Although Windows sounds don't seem to be deactivated on this PC, I don't hear them (ex.: when an error message pops up, when empyting the recycle bin, etc.). But, when the game freezes, I see this guy (see below), but I guess it's normal.

Windows-01.png

In case you have 2 monitors, please unplug the second monitor and try again.

I don't have a second monitor, so this first potential culprit is eliminated :D . However, I have another source (from my Mac Mini) plugged in my monitor, but I never run both computers simultaneously.

And/or set your gfx GPU clock to a fixed value. The card itself must not change the powerstate. Then try again.

OK, after some researches, this is where I might need a bit of help, if possible. I checked in both the NVIDIA Control Panel and the GeForce Experience software, but couldn't find a way to set the GPU clock to a fixed value. And nothing regarding the powerstate neither (I don't even know if there could be a setting for that actually). If I could get a little guide/tuto on this, it would be great.

Cheers!

welcome to the FAForever Forum :)

After viewing your logs i can see that your game crashes on different addresses:
Code:
EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at address 0x00000000
EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at address 0x00915402
EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at address 0x0091a574
EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at address 0x00915402
EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at address 0x0090a7a6
EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at address 0xc0830440

So its likely not the game itself crashing, but maybe something outside the game.

Then i found this:
Code:
warning: c:\work\rts\main\code\src\libs\gpggal\EffectD3D9.cpp(89) invalid effect technique requested: àEm(pAnimateFlat_ADD

You GTX550 crashed while directx was trying to create an gfx effect.
Did you hear a windows "ping" sound while this happened ? (nvidia driver crashed)

I remember there where some problems with GTX 460 and GTX 550 cards when they switch powerstates.
In case you have 2 monitors, please unplug the second monitor and try again.
And/or set your gfx GPU clock to a fixed value. The card itself must not change the powerstate. Then try again.

greetings Uveso.

PS:
Your game files and configuration looks good from what i can see inside the logs.
i would search for the crash cause inside windows/gfx drivers, not inside the game files.
