oke i deleted all the files using "everything" search tool. reinstalled the game, this time i didnt install SC vanilla (probabally wasnt the cause).I tested all the factions once more and I am able to create templetes with all factions now. YEAH!

i am going to reinstall the game once again. this time i make sure to delete all supreme commander files from my pc.

oke i did some more testing. the problem seems to be that when i play cybran the build template button (next to the experimental tech button) is broken. it is not greyed out. i tested it with aeon. i had no templates with aeon so it was greyed out. i made a template an it became clickable. when i start a game as cybran. i select my ACU and click the template button I hear a audio sound. but the menu stays on the tier 1 buildings

Are you sure it does not save the template or does it just not appear in the build menu? Do you have no template button?

the button is there but when i click it it doens't show up the list with templats like it does when i play other factions

I tested it right now, and i can make templates with cybran.
Please add a game.log to your next post, so we can see if there are any errors.

update i found i that I am not able to make a template as cybran but I am able to make one as UAF. very strange havent testen any other faction yet

ok i am running into the same problem. I cannot save the tampletes in the base game nor in FA or in FAF. i already tried removing my game.pref file and i made a new account but to no effect. i hope this wil be read after 5 years XD.

Try following the steps I laid out just a few posts before. I think your issue is that you have not initialized game.prefs properly; that is you have not started a stand-alone game and do not have a FA (not FAF) user name.

So just to be clear, when you select a bunch of building and select create build template, that template does not show up in your engineer in the same game?

Or

In your next game, that build template is not present? If this is true, you are not exiting the game properly. You must select End Game not Exit to Windows. By selecting End Game all your settings that you have changed (adding new templates) is saved to your game.prefs file so that they will be available to you in your next game. By selecting Exit to Windows it is the same as closing a word document and not hitting save; you lose all the changes you made. Always select End Game and close FA by selecting Exit from the main front menu that shows up when you first start FA.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread but I am having the same problem.

I'm a new player. I made the mistake of installing FAF right after FA and didn't play vanilla FA first. I've never successfully made or saved a template. I didn't understand what they were at first when learning the game.

When I select a group of structures and click the Template button, nothing happens. I have uninstalled both FAF and FA. I've deleted every FA-related folder I can find on my PC. Uninstalled all mods. I've re-created the profile, deleted game.prefs, nothing seems to work. I know I am going nowhere without some templates, can someone help?

edit: I have the Steam version of FA.

The Mak, thanks for your extensive help. I can't remember exactly what method I tried and was failing with before, but I believe I was mistakenly trying to use the original SupCom and/or exiting to Windows instead of via the score screen. I was finally able to create the templates I wanted and can continue smashing giant robots together. ^^
