here are my test results on pingtest.net (attached image):
0% packet lost
25ms ping
2ms jitter

BTW, I had a 1v1 game against SSX_NI and there were no lag at all!
I changed nothing to my configuration from yesterday.
There was a FAF patch but not related to this.
Let's see how stable this is tomorrow.

Thanks,
Jean

Will do so this evening.
BTW, when lags occurs, my command line pinging google.com does not change a bit and reports 20ms ping time.

Hi Sheeo,

I have the exact same issue with anyone else, even in France and with someone using the same ISP than me.
The only difference is about ingame ping which was about 150-200ms against HotFog (again thanks for your help!), so pretty fair. Having a 50ms ping (with keyser (thanks too!) in France, same ISP) does not change a thing regarding lags .

Anyway, I will try to get logs with someone in France.
Thanks for your support,
Jean

You're welcome. Would you mind attaching the output of running the test given here: http://www.pingtest.net/?

I happen to know that he's from South Africa, which is the most probable explanation at this point. It is very clear from the logs that we're talking about network lag.

Are you certain your lag occurs when playing with other peers too? If so, please provide logs from such games.

Hi Ionic,

I did; there is an entry logged to him. But he has no idea.
I also eventually found another game to test against : World of tanks. No lag at all. Not sure about the latency/bandwidth needed by WoT compare to FA.

Also tried some VPN (CyberGhost and SecrityKiss), no way to FAF to work with (no response on UDP port 6112).

Actually I suspect my ISP filters/adds latency to some specific ports. I know that FAF/FA uses 6112 (changeable) and also some other ones (around 50000 if I remember correctly). Is there a way to parameter them as well?

Just posting messages in case someone has a magic idea to work this out.

The game itself uses a single UDP port, which is the one you're able to change through the client.

While your game is running, the FAF client maintains TCP connections to our server, but those are irrelevant to your network lag, since they are very low maintenance.

Your original post doesn't contain any logs, so I don't know if you're being proxied or not -- could you post more information please?

new tests:
- Disabled all unused network devices (wifi, bluetooth, etc.)
- Re-installed FAF
- Cleared cache
- Switched from uPNP to DMZ
- Cleared ISP box configuration
- restarted ISP box twice
- Today, a bit before 23:30, a FAF patch has been deployed

Guess what? No change! Still laggy!
And Windows network TCP connection tab does not report any packet lost.

PS: apologizes to all my 1v1 oponents for the laggy stuff

new tests and still no clue:
I suspected a drop from my ISP on game port 6112, as TS is working fine, I changed it to the TS port (9987); same bug : lags in 1v1v1 game (even worse).
Here is a snap: http://jlusetti.free.fr/images/FAnetstat3.jpg

I really don't understand, as soon as I make an hypothesis, next test garbages it...

I tried vpn4gamers and WTFast, I think vpn4gamers does not manage FA and WTFast forces FAF to use FAF proxy and this is even worse (time out very fast).
Here is the CPU snap: http://jlusetti.free.fr/images/cpufa.jpg
Nothing wrong I guess.

I will try using a VPN for gaming that is supposed to avoid this kind of thing to check.
