Short version: lots of aussies claim they have no problem, but will lag 10 minutes later. That's why there are so many players kicking the aussie / nz flag-showing players. If there was a better connection benchmark... most of them would get auto-kicked. I'm very sorry for you if you happen to be the rare exception to it.

So far it seems the AUS / NZ flag is a better indication of crappy connection than the ping bar in the sense that that ping almost never shows... not even with crappy connection that do lag a lot.

As for bashing: lol; grow a skin, go on the other team, beat them and end with a nice joke.

Except for brit bashing of course: they deserve it

Can't do that either.

If you do, it goes from 'kick all USA' to 'kick all USA and no flags'.
So a larger group of people are alienated.

So unless we are hoping that in doing so, so few people are not kicked that kickees are compelled to allow blank flags into their games - or they never fill.

Not exactly optimal and questionably effective.

Setting your own flag is an option as well, but then bans will be based of something else. Likely moved to the actually semi-helpful ping/cpu bar -which is overall a good thing.
The minor annoyance when someone displays a flag not their own and then proceeds to not speak that countries language is a fair trade here I feel.

Hate pointing out these flaws, but if I don't, they will just pop up in-game. Best be aware of them now even if this is the solution we go with.

quite often ppl just hit f11 when there are network issues, see the ping and start blaming. If ppl knew networking is about more than just ping that would be a good start. So xinnony is right, it's a people issue not a flags issue, however the flags do "justify" kicking to the ill-informed.

My nation is small and I want to know if there are any others that share not only my interest in FA, but also cultural and national background. It's always nice to say hi to a fellow citizen in our mother tongue. But that is just my opinion.

Yes, because you know how it works. Lots of players seem to think ping is the only thing to go by.

Yes, however this seems to encompass a large part of the community.

overall, I am not saying the flag should be removed, but since a lot of people don't know better they just kick oceania flags.

I am getting pretty sick of getting kicked from games because the host sees a aus/nz flag. I am on 100mb fibre, 400 ping is fine in faf if the connection isn't bottlenecked, but no, no discussion, just a "you have been kicked" window.

I don't lag, and the flags in the lobby are a bad thing for me. just so you know.

All jokes aside, I think players should have the option to switch off displaiyng their own flag.

Ahh see now that is the best of both worlds. I like it

My advice to you would be to #1 stay out of political discussions and #2 perhaps grow a little thicker skin.

I agree that there is a lot of USA bashing (I am a resident as well ;) ) but just don't let it bother you. There is a reason political cartoons do so well..... There is something to joke about in every country and creed on the planet.

That said, FAF does not tolerate racism or explicit haggling of players. If someone is specifically abusing you in PM or in game, screenshot it and forward the picture to us at the admin group here on the forum. If you see things getting out of hand in the main chat, try pinging one of the white names at the top to get the attention of a moderator.
I never said I was particularly upset by it. I also was not engaging in political discussions, either, I see bashing just in the course of normal chat and even ingame. Even though I'm not exactly crying myself to sleep at night over it, it's still a big issue and something that's basically encouraged by forcing everybody to be labeled by country.

EDIT: nevermind, I'm done bitching. I'll just report everybody.
