Some stats.

I've parsed all the replays from all the games played on FAF since alpha release :

For 15.240 replays, 68.661 players entries, with :

21.493 UEF ( 31,3 % )
17.335 Cybran ( 25,2 % )
19.623 Aeon ( 28,5 % )
10.210 Seraphim ( 14.8 % )

No big surprises here. Seraphim already got a lot of bug fixes since the start, but the road is long before it will be played more.

Win ratio per faction stats will be soon available (can only be done on 1v1) with the replay vault, but if a faction was REALLY OP, I guess it will be played a lot more than 30% of the time

Exactly my thoughts, many times its not the faction one uses but how well one plays.

Just iron out some of the big issues, and all is fine. It doesnt really matter if one race overall is better than any other.

Maybe after bugs are fixed you guys can concentrate on making some of the lesser used units/upgrades useful e.g. the SCU, etc

Indeed. UEF is the strongest, then Aeon and Cybran are about equal, and Seraphim is the weakest... but the differences are not enormous. Balance isn't perfect, but it's pretty good.

Can we gather even more stats? Unit types built ingame, and detailed breakdowns of how they performed (mass killed by unit type, etc)?

It would be interesting to see some broader data on which units truly are underused, underpowered, etc.

I don't think "mass killed by unit type" is ever recorded in game.

Its a matrix where you have how often faction X beats faction Y.

What does the stats have to do with the strongest/weakest and balance?

I play Cybran cause I love their style not because they are strong/weak.

If anything, the stats show in terms of "who wins more" as UEF > Aeon > Seraphim = Cybran...?

Of course, with such a small sample size its also heavily affected by which players play which factions.

Considering wins/losses are pretty much 50/50 for every faction, seems to indicate good faction balance, though.
