Mentor program - alternative to trainers

Postby content404 » 13 Jul 2015, 22:30

Years ago on GameReplays.org there was a mentor program for SupCom that worked fairly well to help players improve their game. Each mentor would have 3 mentees, who would submit replays for mentors to watch and comment on. In game training was encouraged but not required, the focus was on reviewing replays. Each mentor would have their own mentor in turn as a sort of reward for helping out lesser skilled players.

If there's enough interest in this I'd like to organize it. We can vary the details, like having fewer mentees, but the basic elements would be what I've written above. So if you'd like to participate let me know and we can get this thing going.

I think that's a fantastic idea. it would be a great way to introduce new players while making it less overwhelming.

I would love to help out if I can :)

No, it was from gamereplays, had nothing to do with GPG. ;)

I think today it works better to review in video-form than text for everyone who is able to.

I really like this idea, in some ways this is what a trainer should be doing anyway, so full speed ahead I say.

Hm yeah, i always wanted more to give some continued mentoring to 1/2/maybe 3 peoples rather than repeating all the same stuff in single lesson to people who will not come back again.

Not sure if this is going to work though.

speed2: Yes that looks very familiar. Even tho it wasn't thru GPG I think they still had the avatar in GPGNet.

Sounds like people are on board, most excellent. I'll set this up as soon as I can. If there are a lot of mentors/mentees it would probably be helpful to have a subforum. IIRC mentors/mentees were assigned but we could also have mentees chosen, it might be better that way. Thoughts?

This sounds good. I'll volunteer to be a mentor for 1v1 ladder.
