Second-hand copy of FA Disc with no key

Hi everyone, noob here. Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask or if it has been answered elsewhere (I did search).

I am having technical problems with Steam due to a mandatory anti-virus on my current computer.

Instead of Steam, I was thinking of buying a second-hand copy of Forged Alliance off eBay or Amazon, but they seem to be sold "Disc only" with no CD key. Will I be able to install and run FA and FAF with just the original FA disc? Or will this be a waste of time & effort without the CD key?

you need a cd key to install the game from the dvd

Thanks. And does it also need to be an unused CD key? I.e. if someone has previously installed the game from the DVD with the CD key, it can't be installed on another computer?

there is no online registration when installing the game from the dvd so you can buy "used" cd key without issues
only thing to mention in that regard is that you can use the cd key to get a free copy of the game via steam
so if someone sells his "used" retail copy then that person might have done that and you won't be able to do the same

Depending on how much it's personally worth to you, I'd suggest buying the key/copy on steam. You don't have to worry about losing the key this way.
