Rating and skill level?

Hi,

I'm an old timer SupCom/FA player, getting back to it occasionally.

First, thanks FAF team -- good job!

I have some question about the FAF rating and skill level though: I'm curious what does the rating mean for different skill levels?

I mean, in the old GPGNet you could tell roughly by the rating badge, i.e.:
Gold stars (2200+): first-tier players
3 stars (2000+): second-tier players
2 stars (1700+?): intermediate
1 star (1400+?): novice
no star: beginner

But with FAF it's not clear to me what rating means what, even if you just look at 1v1 rating. And speaking of some players rating, Zock is 2500 while FunkOff is 1500?? Shouldn't their rating be quite similar, unless there are many super pro here who farm FunkOff but I doubt it

Also the rating badges like in GPGNet would be cool

funkoff gold age was super long ago (in GPG), he isn't playing nowadays and never reach a good rating in faf.
Can't tell you the equivalent for stars though, wasn't around at gpg time.

Right, but let's say if we are to divide the player base into 4 categories: novice/intermediate/advanced/expert, what would be your FAF 1v1 rating cutoffs for them?

Average FAF rating is 800 so if that’s 1-star then “two-star” is 1500 and “three-star” is 1800. Gold star 2000 I guess.

Dunno how GPG did it but your current ratings would basically exclude anyone outside of the top 80ish on FAF.

Well 1400 would be top 230, didn’t see that one before for some reason.

beginner : until 1000
novice : 1000-1300
intermediate : 1300-1600
advanced :1600-1900
expert : 1900+

I think with GPGNet everyone started with something like 1200 that's why the ratings were higher.

Also GPG used Elo while FAF uses TrueSkill for calculating rating.
