FAF does not change (as far as i know) files in you original FAF instalation, so for FAF it is not possible to patch the campaing i think
No. Correct me if I'm wrong, PilOt, but I believe FaF uses the new .exe to auto-hook the new version and changes on startup.
I contacted Sorian about this idea, and he pointed me to a data/scx1hook/ folder, which I could not find. I did, however, find the list of digits I expected in mods.scd, under mods/CampaignBranch. This looks like it is basically a non-UI-selectable mod, and I imagine that it is automatically called and hooked by something in data/scx1hook/ though as I couldn't find it, I can't help but wonder if he meant schook.scd
Either way, I believe if you can find whereabouts the game calls the CampaignBranch mod from, I don't think it can be more than a couple of lines in a .lua file to change, making it so that no mod is called. In theory, the campaign should then revert to normal balance.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how to take this further?
EDIT: Blimy, this could be even easier than I thought. It turns out that simply deleting the CampaignBranch folder containing the actual modifications and re-SCDing the folder without it causes the campaign to load with normal FaF balance. How about that? Of course, since T3 Fabs now take a lot more power, the first mission's start is now in severely negative power with all three Fabs turned on, but hey, I guess that just makes it harder.
So, for those of us in the know, it turns out that getting FaF balance in campaign is easy, but since it does require manual modification of files, which not everybody is comfortable with, I think it would still be nice to have it gone by default, which I still think means just over-writing the mod-call code line.
If it is decided this cannot or will not be attempted, I call for a step-by-step guide to actually doing this to be stickied somewhere on this forum for those who want it. Having it off by default would be preferable, but it seems to non longer be essential.
One thing's for sure: The campaign just got one hell of a lot tougher
