Units Mysteriously Ctrl K'd or instaDestroyed magically

8:15, watch orange fighting. Two acus, orange has some tanks, and they all just Die mysteriously. Looks like a hack in effect on the opposite side. Anyone know what happened here?

Watched it a couple times, it looks like the units were ctrl K'd, but the player swears one hand was on shift on the other on the mouse, and it was impossible he gave the order... Do I smell a HAX? Please advise

I watched and it was a definate ctrl k, you can see the timer start from Abyss' point of view. I would suggest it was an accident when using ctrl to select land units, if he used ctrl+l to select his bots then on a qwerty and alphabetical keyboards k is right next to it...

As for it possibly being the opponent who gave the order I wouldn't know how to prove that though I think its unlikely.

If anyone is concerned about such hacks, then I highly recommend that you look at the lua script that handles self-destruct. It's about as likely as this...

There is a UI-mod that add a confirmation on ctrl-k. Should be modified to not do it on the firebeetle but it works.

If you install the anti-ctrl-k mod, and your ACU still explode, then you know it's an hax.

The problem with such a hack is with how the sim is synchronized. For such a hack to work, the exact same code would need to be run on every machine, so it would either need to be a custom sim mod that everyone had, or it would need to be built into the FAF patch. The latter is easily checkable on your end, as you can look in the lua code to see if there's anything like that in the self destruct code (and there isn't).

If someone insists that you use a custom sim mod in their game before you can play, well, that would raise a red flag. And you should probably check to see what it does if it's not one of the featured mods and doesn't seem to do much of anything.

People love to blame their mistakes on others, and calling the other person a cheater/"hacker" is an easy way to avoid responsibility. I'm not saying it's the case for the OP, just that that's been my experience on the subject. :)

(now, if someone really did have the mad coding skillz to pull this off.. wow! and they should really get to work on the FAF patch instead of making other ACUs explode :))

That's because the color is given by the lobby as an argument. That argument is passed. If you edit the script and put your own color, it will work, as it's an UI thing at that stage.

But I dont' really see the point of making your rating green, the color shade has a meaning.

That's like comparing taking a picture of an apple with assembling an exact replica of apple, molecule by molecule, and then calculating the lighting to exactly match the original view of the apple. :)

We probably shouldn't go into much more detail here, but suffice it to say, what you're talking of is relatively easy, and what the OP was talking about is super, super hard.
