Planes and ground fire.

Postby Ze_PilOt » 20 Sep 2012, 10:35

What is it supposed to do ? Is there any real evidence that it does something than fire at will doesn't, or is it an urban legend or a placebo effect like core maximizer ?

"They" use for T3 planes. I've tried in sandbox, I don't see any visible change in behavior with ground fire.

No. As T3 ASF can't attack ground, it has the exact same behavior as the default mode (fire at will) to my eyes and quick tests in sandbox.

As far as I know, it doesn't do anything. I've never used it in a real game and do just fine with ASF micro. :)

i just tested it, it works like you give an attack order with alt+rightclick... only if you place the attack order somewhere ofc, only having groundfire enabled doesn't change the behaviour while there is no enemy

after ~1 second they begin to slow down and it looks like they try to regroup, then from a certain timepoint on they start to accelerate again and the swarm splits

when you think about it, you can use this with alot effort: make them slow down, in the perfect moment you give another move order so they won't split... then get another attack order, another move order... if it's really worth the effort, no idea

i added a replay for it, showing move orders and placed attack orders, you will see the difference
(btw, i used a factory and instabuild because i have no cheating UI due to zulan hotkeys D: )

take a very close look, they slow down and sorta regroup when i give a placed groundattack order

to the firing stuff, i can't test that alone :)

True, but a cloud of ASF can take out the shields of a UEF base very quickly. They attack the drones and that kills the shields, opening the way for a snipe.

You don't need ground fire for that.

Nope. But just pointing out that under the right circumstances ASF can attack land units/structures.
A gunship refueling on a fatboy can mean instant death. Does not happen in normal games but quite funny when it does.
