Ship rocking

Postby ColonelSheppard » 22 Sep 2012, 12:59

Hi,

i need some people to test the ship rocking which i want to include in the next pull-request for an upcoming patch (also one idea of the_vehicel)

just unzip and put it in: Documents/Mygames/gaspoweredgames/mods

cause of my lazyness you can also find the new aeon ship firing system in it (oblivion cannons now already load while targeting) if you want to have a look on it

what i want to know:

1. do ships rock ( you know what i mean) always
2. do you want moar (maybe especially on the smaler ships)
3. any other issues (i cant imagine there are some, but if a ships turns around or anything really really stupid is happening we better know now oO)

EDIT: Rocking means this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnYqZe_h8sY
not the music....

Small ships should always rock more and faster than big ships. Is it possible to do this?

yes it is, cause of that i need people that test the rocking how it is atm, so we can decide if we cut down the rocking of the aircraft carrier for example and increase the ones of t1 units maybe

It is a good idea as long as it doesn't affect the targeting in any way. I think it's best if this is kept to the visual effects only. If would make the battles too unpredictable otherwise.

It would be a great thing to have though :P

It would affect impacts, not targeting, and then only by a tiny fraction. Shouldn't have any real impact on battle outcomes.

What about the turret having to move up and down constantly to compensate? Would that slow RoF?

If you make them rock to hard (aww yeah ), you will get problems with the possible firing angles, because they are relative to the ship (imba sketch):

ships will not rock while firing, i already thought of that one
im not even sure if the hitbox is actually shifting, if it is, it's so minimal that i did not see a shot that has missed cause of that

but i repeat: TEST IT i cannot say for 100% safety if nobdy tests it except me
and maybe you say hmm aeon ships still load too late we need even more

--> TEST
