Forged Alliance Operation Meltdown help

Postby Flynn » 31 Dec 2012, 14:55

Hi I'm not quite sure where to put this but I was wondering something about this campaign mission. Has anyone been able to take the fight to the enemy without getting wiped out themselves? I have managed to wipe out their original main base but they have about a dozen Seraphim experimentals that they throw at you from all different directions. I've been able to try out a few different strategies as I have a saved game up to the point where HQ is trying to fix the Quantum gate. The one that held them off for longest was spamming level 2 artillery around they base, this allowed me to get my ACU to the extraction point but it was literally down to the last minute and he was under fire from gunships as he was teleported out, so I've completed the mission but want to see if I can take the enemy out instead of them doing so in the time.

Ah good old campaign. They're only as hard as you try to make them.

One technique (on mission 4 I'm guessing) is to play as aeon, build a paragon in the first stage, build 100 SCU, upgrade them all to tele, teleport them inside a walled off box (3x3 size, one space in middle), then start spamming Czars with them. Build a few sam launchers just to be sure, but a good Czar spam should beat anything. 20~30 will probably do.

Did you know if you kill all the enemys, it ends the mission early. :)

Hey guys I've just checked and yes it is Operation Meltdown, the one where Dostya gets killed. It frustrates me because even though I have completed the operation successfully I can't seem to defend against their experimental spam. Just when I think I am doing well they somehow manage to sneak an experimental right into my base and take out my Pgen+mass fab farm which effectively ends the game. I have tried countering with spy plane spam but they keep getting shot down/too much micro to keep them up in the air. I have also tried upgrading my com with the cloak but for some reason their T3 bots still shoot at him. I can upload the save if you like for you guys to have a go. By the way, I am not a n00b (incase you are wondering) I come from a background of TA (played on Warzone, PhoenixWorx), Supcom original (when it came out) and have watched many replays of famous TA/SupCom players. Although that was several years ago.

Edit: Oh yeah I am playing as Cybran btw, I have also tried to spam MonkeyLords but can't get enough up in time.

50 T3 PDs (UEF)
10 Monkeylords (CYBRAN)
6 Galactic Colossus (AEON)

is enough to defend it
so where is the problem? just do not finish the previous mission part if you are not ready

Soul Rippers and Monkeylords. Should do it. Which difficulty are you playing on. I always played it on easy (which is pathetic, I know, but ignore that) and no experimental actually came to attack me.

It was more the air drops, T3 bombers and gunships that pose a problem. However, these should be easily countered by lots of ASFs, SAMS and flak (T3 bombers go quite slow when flying in formation, which is what they do).

Anyway: Soul rippers and Monkeylords. Don't attack until you have about 20 Soul Rippers, then you should be able to blast through all bases (from the first one before the map expands, up to the 6 surrounding you after the map expands).

on hard, there will be groups of t3 units and actually about 10 t4 bots with ~100k hp each coming for your base, that means you have to get a decent firepower to protect your base
as dilli said, get a paragon (if possible), or alot t3 pds (as uef), or soulrippers (as cybran), and try to attack crucial groups of the enemy before they arrive, so you got more time and firepower to deal with the others

If it helps you can adjust the speed in campaign, so even if you started again (I would kill the initial enemies on something near normal speed first) you can fast forward building para, 50 soulrippers etc

Yep, you can. So use the normal speed to build proper protection during the first stage. Then build the massive number of exps and ASFs with the highest speed possible. Then finish your first objective and rush through the rest of the stuff in 5 minutes.
