Games database?

Postby Cantor » 19 Feb 2013, 12:18

Is there any way to get my hands on a database that has the games played so far? Just the basic info for each game: the map, the players & which faction they are playing, the team formation, and of course which team won.

Yes. In the replay tab.

Right, but is an export of that DB to a compute readable format available? Or some way to scrape that data myself?

No, there is no export of such database. It's too big. What do you want to achieve ?

Run some analysis on it. For example which factions are good on which maps. Currently you can see win rate per map, but for example since many noob players choose UEF that's a bit skewed. How big is it? I don't need all data, just a big enough subset to be able to do some analysis (e.g. only data of last month).

if you want to make stats, keep this
viewtopic.php?f=41&t=2024
running for a day with the players you want to test (probably everything above 1800)
or create a small script that makes some autodownloads from here
http://faforever.com/faf/vault/replays_simple.php
shouldnt be a big deal

Thanks I can do that, if ze_pilot doesn't find it a problem to download a lot of replays. Is the file format of replay files described somewhere? The replay files look like:

{"num_players": 4, "game_end": 1361268894.751414, "uid": 650115, "title": "2v2 or more 2x", "game_type": 0, "teams": {"1": ["k3ntin"], "2": ["emperor_katax", "GloriousSucker"]}, "mapname": "scmp_008", "featured_mod": "faf", "complete": true}
ABC/33ja7D0HfBRF93N3aSQhCSEJIaEcvZMeEoGQZTc0CQQSFKTlQo4QSDOFJmBURFSUFnox9CIlFBUbBERFRUTlr9ijYv ... more stuff like this

this has some info I need in plain text, but one player is missing (probably the player who hosted the game), and not the factions and which team won. So maybe that information is in the "ABC/33ja7D0HfBRF93N3aSQh...", but what's the encoding used there?

In 1v1, 34,535 games were played by UEF under 1200.
In total, 46,599 games were played by UEF.
That's 74% of 'noobs'.

In 1v1, 11,214 were played by Cybran under 1200.
In total 13,153 games were played by Cybran.
That's 85% of 'noobs'.

In 1v1, 25,690 were played by Aeon under 1200.
In total 31,870 games were played by Cybran.
That's 80% of 'noobs'.

In 1v1, 17,933 were played by Sera under 1200.
In total 19,891 games were played by Sera.
That's 90% of 'noobs'.

By 1200, I mean the 'mean'. the rating is mean-3*deviation, so it's people under around 1500 in the leaderboard.

So it's basically the opposite of what you were thinking :)

Interesting indeed! So sera is the noob faction, and UEF is the elite :D

From those numbers it seems that the DB isn't that large? Stats per game (map, player1, player2, player1faction, player2faction, winner) after zip compression would probably end up around 100 bytes. So all 1v1 games in total would end up on the order of 10 megabytes?

That statistics combined with the fact that uef has an extremely low win rate on the ladder maps make the impression that uef is somewhat up. I mean, our explanation for the low UEF winrates was that all newbies play UEF, but if the percentage of newbs in the other factions is even higher, the conclusion is that uef is weak in 1v1?
