Sams do no dmg!

Playing phantoms mod as UEF. Made some Sams, noticed they did some dmg but the enemy spy plane circled over base immune. Then ASF flew over, saw some dmg on the initial pass and then they flew around immune to dmg. T3 bombers seemed to be hit fine after inital pass. It looked like the faster planes outran the AoE dmg on anything but a straight on pass. Once they passed over the sams the missles appeared to hit but did no dmg.

I noticed the same thing. Someone flew 4 T3 spy planes into my base that was covered with at least 8 SAM. 3 of them died but one of them survived, an entire pass in AND out of my base, all the time SAM were shooting at it, but none of the hits were doing any damage.

I also had ACU in water in one game, with spy plane circling above. I built 1 SAM and it took 4 volleys before the spy plane was destroyed.

Waaaaaat. ahaha

They don't do damage? You should make a proper title.

New SAM projectile are a bit faster for Cybran, UEF, Aeon. They hit more easily faster aircraft than before, but it's a game with physics, so sometimes, the projectile explode before it reaches the faster plane. AOE also help to hit more often.
If you want SAM to almost always hit faster aircrafts, play Seraphim, they have fastest projectile SAM.

It's good.

Scouting is an important part of the game, and shouldn't be denied easily.

Same with T1 scout and T1 AA.
But nothing new here.

Yes, nothing new. SAMs are mostly built to protect from threats, you need a couple ASF patrolling in front of your base to catch up with spy planes and prevent them to spy on you. You should not think that ASF are useless because they have a bit less HP and SAM got a buff against blobs. Most situations with few t3 planes (not blobs) are almost unchanged.

I thought the theory behind the patch was to make Sams more useful not less. I appreciate the buff to killing t3 bombers and T3 bomber sniping is an annoying aspect of the game, but if Sams cannot stop ASF or spy planes now either it just leads to more ASF spamming which is the exact opposite of what was intended. I'll try to do more testing, but if the window of invulnerability to sams is as big as it was looking we have a serious problem. BTW i swear I noticed UEF cruisers being insane against air, even more so than before. Where other missles changed?

You should try something : make a sandbox game against AI, spawn 150 ASF flying over 5 SAM and tell me how long it takes the SAM to kill the ASF. Then report back.

Let's look at this replay, around 34:50 just before I died (if you can stand sitting through how boring it is lol). Watch for the grey (or maybe white) scouts that scout my SAM covered base. 2 die, one for like 10 seconds more than it should have aha.

Even with your guys' "explanation" it shouldn't take over 5 volleys to kill 1 scout ahah. Obviously given the fact that it came with 3 other scouts and is fast, it should have still gotten intel from the back of my base, but it's the principle here that so many missiles did nothing heh. And if you pay attention throughout the game, you'll see many other instances where it looks like SAM missiles are hitting, but they do no damage. Of course in certain other cases they are effective too. Consistency?
