Anybody want to help me make missions?

Postby FunkOff » 07 Nov 2011, 20:02

I threw this idea out there before... training/tutorial and coop missions... and I want to get working on it. However, I cannot get the official map editor working on my system (it doesn't work with windows 7?) so to make missions, I'd need somebody who can use the map editor.

What I'll need is just somebody to mess with markers, props and units. Specifically, I intent to use existing maps because there are plenty and just make missions with those. I'll write the scripts once the markers/props/spawn units are placed on the map.

Anybody want to help me out and make coop missions?

I wish I could help, however it took me 3 hours with the map editor just to figure out the "Standard" should not be capitalized.

If I could see what the map editor files look like when they are work in progress for campaign missions, I could probably get proficient enough to help.

I don't need help coding... I intend to do all the coding myself. I just need help placing assets on the map in the editor.

I would definitely help with things like. If it is something like choosing the best spot for a pd, or testing the missions, I would definitely do it.

Well, making a mission has a few steps:

1. Design
2. Map
3. Script

I only need help with #2, but if you want to help with #1 I don't mind that either. Everybody likes seeing their ideas come to life. :-)

I had ideas for 1, but I'll save them until I watch the entire 1 to 3 process a few times.

Let me know what you have for 1 and what you would like for 2 and I will fight with the map editor to see what I can come up with.

I may be able to get a map editor working, but only by using a XP virtual machine.

Other than that, for me: the SupCom map editor works (So the one in the SupCom vanilla mode). However, the Forged Alliance map editor doesn't (instant crash on startup).

When I start the SupCom map editor, I can load any SupCom map.
I can't load any FA map.

I'll post the logs when I am able (there were about six things missing). Of course, there is no log of the instantaneously crashing FA map editor but the appcrash lies in gpgcore.dll (or so the Win Error reporter tells me).

Well, it's the same thing. If you put the SupCom editor in the FA folder along with three required dll files, you can use it as a FA map editor. The effects are that you can open FA maps (I have been unable to open any FA map from the map editor in the SupCom folder, which is really annoying because I made maps like Point of Reach with the editor from the FA folder).

I has to do something with missing resources (the files I think, there are textures and stuff added in FA which I want to be able to use), but I'm going to find it out in the weekend.

(maybe copying all the FA resource dll files to the SupCom folder)
