Destroying HARMS with ground-fire

Postby Kurbain » 28 May 2013, 12:02

Hello everyone,

since killing the Cybran HARMS with ground-fire from a cruiser or battleship makes it a lot less effective, I was wondering what others think about it.

Would you consider it a bug, clever use of game mechanics or working as intended?

Since all other static defenses are destroyable from outside their attack range, one could argue that the same should be true for the HARMS as well.
On the other hand it is unique to the Cybrans and they might need the advantage it would provide if it wasn't killable by ground-fire.
It also costs 200% more than a T2 torpedo launcher and 66% more than an UEF Ravager.

its fine

if you go for mass cost you can counter any cruiesr fire with : your own cruiser (they all have tmd) or any other tmd. you still can kill the cruisers.

actually all kind of subs can get atacked by groundfire not just harms.

1. Going around it.
2. Reclaiming it with Sera/Aeon engineers.
3. Using Torpedos Bombers.
4. Stealth Boat + torpedo units.

I consider using ground-fire to kill a HARMS fine, though, since otherwise it would work too effective for its price and all the options mentioned above are difficult to put into practice.

using ground fire to attack underwater units close to the surface is a great strat.

however, maybe in time a system could be developed to calculate water depth,
like surely something at a deeper level should be less affected by ground fire (shells water penetration)

HARMS and Subs all seem quite close to the surface, whereas some Exp's travel along the sea floor.
and if an ACU is hiding in one of the ponds, should my Strat Bomber's on ground fire still be that effective?

3.
getting 12.5 t2 bombers to a harms when its lategame? pretty hard. and that wouldnt even kill it in one strike (equivalent of mass).
2.
i dont think a few paper units reach the harms before anything has destroyed it. there will be enough onsurface navy.
what i could think of as a counter would be hover tanks. but not any faction has them

I thought the last time people talked about this the conclusion was that if the HARMS were to be 'fixed' so that it isn't easy/possible to hit it with surface fire, its HP would have to be lowered to, like, 5k or something and it should be targetable by surface fire while under construction.

But no one changed it then during the balance patch period, so I doubt anything is going to happen now...
