The next few weeks...

Postby Ze_PilOt » 30 Jan 2012, 23:08

FAF is leading toward his first public release.
The goal is to finish some of the features, and integrate the last basic ones.

This week, two things will be placed for testing :

1. Account management (from the website) :
- Login retrieval
- Password reset.
- Login change.

2. Rating
[s]- The server logs will be cleaned up for an easier retrieval of logs about game reporting. You will be asked to report ANY not-reported game or incorrect game.[/s]
[s]How you must report will be explained later. Reporting/complaining in chat is NOT a way to do it.[/s]
[s]- Desync will be taken in account and the game not reported.[/s]
[s]- Mutual disconnection (1v1) will lead in an invalid game. In order to get an mutual disconnection, both players must stay connected to the server, but not to each other. If one of the player is also disconnected from the server, the remaining player will get an auto-win.[/s]
- FFA will count for 25% of the rating.
- The matchmaker will respect the game quality ratio (you won't be placed against people not your rank anymore). The game quality will decrease over time of search, but will never goes under 60%.

When a feature is implemented, please test it heavily.

I must also state that your stats will be reset after the first public release. So don't fear to launch test games in order to get invalid game reports.

1. By 'stats' do you mean our rating? A rating reset would probably get a few people agitated
2. What does a public release mean? How will that meaningfully change our experience as current 'beta' players?
3. Sorry if this is basic information. I'm noob.
4. Thanks for all your hard work!

Yes, the soft is still in beta. That's why you see the scores after a game, and who you are gonna fight during a matchmaking (they are debug messages). That's also why there is no password reset, and why I don't really care if you lose yours.

But it's indeed not meant to have that many players so soon. Most of them doesn't know that they are supposed to make bug reports and not complaigning in chat or in PM. That's why it's starting to be urgent to get out of it.

Stats reset was planned since forever after first release. The only reason is that YOU are supposed to mess around all the things to find bugs.

I really hope you will do it and find all the remaining problems, I really don't want to go through a closed beta phase before release. (closed beta = server kicking out everybody not in the beta)

Also, map vault is 95% ready. I have only one thing left to do before it can go public (beta as well  )

You will have:
Improved search - by map name and filename
Decent filters - by map size, number of player etc. etc.
Comment system
Rating system
Broken maps reporting system
And a surprise for the dessert!

;)
Never argue with an idiot. He will bring you down to his level and beat with experience.

Sounds awesome!

On my end I'm very close to having a temporary solution for a replay vault finished - basically, it uploads replays to Moritz's Fa-ladder site after you play a game: http://fa-ladder.com/index.php?link=41&skin=1 - there's just a couple rough edges left to smooth over for the installation process. Once we have a working replay vault, we might be able to reuse the replay detection portion of it as well (it's a windows service which monitors the user's replay folder and prompts them to upload the replay, with an optional comment, when one is detected).

Maybe I can work on a few fixes too.... let's see what I can rememebr offhand... fix the UEF drone upgrade being non-exclusive with other back upgrades, make air units leave wrecks in the water, and if I can manage it, make the seraphim destroyer anti-torp work right once in a while. ( That one will be the hardest.)

Anything else need doing that I'm forgetting? PD size maybe?

I don't think this has been clarified yet: will the update erase everyone's rating?
