i do not like ads of any kind. there are enough around. so you need more money? i do not understand. i thought it worked well. besides the charity event do you for your work need more help in form of money? i mean, ther is a) the server and the maintenance and the balance stuff and the integrating of the mods and so on and b) there is the galactic war thing.
for both of these we can spend money.
is the ad solution really the answer? well, you say yourself it is just a test.
personally, i hate those ads but i am not going to say that i am willing to pay in the future. i will pay even less when i see that stuff:

i am willing to donate but i am not willing to donate to prevent ads, i want to donate to get things going! and when there is not enough money, i donate for the maintenance and the running of the server but not for any galactic wars.
My opinion is that there is no need for such a junk. it degrades the whole feeling of the project.
good that you are going to ask what the community thinks about it.
maybe it is just me who can get a bit upset about this ad-crap, but i hate ads. especially thos like above. if they are starting even to blink, there will be a blocker in place.
