Hosts a dedicated FAF server - Possible?

Postby Ryahn » 14 Mar 2014, 00:18

I am wondering if it is possible to host a dedicated server that is running FAF. Reason why I ask, is I have a community that I run and a few of us do runs through forge alliance. I stumbled across FAF when search for forge alliance dedicated servers. I would like to setup a server that some of my community members could join when ever or even have it up for FAF as well.

Supcom uses p2p rather than client server. The server only acts to advertise the initial game. Clients connect directly to each other.

Would it not work better to just have whoever is on in your clan start a game?

If you're on LAN and are unable to connect through the internet you could just install FAF beforehand and launch it through the .exe. Otherwise you can just play on FAF, which would obviously be the easiest.

If you insist on hosting a dedicated FAF server, the lobby is opensourced but, as far as I know, the backend is not. So you'd have to build your own. Quite some knowledge is required, but I'd just play through FAF if I were you.

obviously you could as well use a VPN network to play lan via internet though i dont really see the point of it
btw the lobby now also has a notificationsystem for when a friend hosts a game so that might also help you..

Why not just use the existing FAF server? It's free and you can even take advantage of the COOP campaign system (I'm guessing you mean the campaign when you say that you do runs through FA).
