Obituary to GPGNET, a time to play and a time to die

Postby TA4Life » 06 Mar 2012, 01:56

We have gathered here during these sad times, to remember and celebrate the world and the spirit of gpgnet, of Halcyon and of all the dead noobs that have been slaughtered over the years.

The last 5 years have filled Supcom's maps with the wreck's of our enemy's armies. Your dead are there too and you were a noob once, scrolling back the mouse in disbelief as your noob brain was exploding with possibilities. You did not dream of today.

The way is my shepherd; I shall not want. It maketh me to drop arty in green pastures: it leadeth me beside the still waters. It restoreth my soul, though I don't build restorers: it leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for the future. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for it is with me; my overcharge and my gun upgrade, they comfort me. It preparest a base before me in the presence of mine enemies: it fills my eco with power; my mass runneth over. Surely goodness and mercies shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Halcyon forever.

Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all play, but we shall all patch our game,
In a moment, in 500 ms, at the nuclear launch: for the fat lady shall say, ”Strategic Launch detected!” and the wrecks shall litter the map, and we shall get our games patched for us.

So when our steam copies are made whole, and mortality shall have to put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, “Death is swallowed up in victory!”
O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
The sting of death is the inability to host a game; and the grave is your disconnected gpgnet.
But thanks be to Ze_Pilot, who giveth us the victory through FAF.

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, like the sera ACU with the bugged regen and feet, always abounding in the play of Supcom FA, forasmuch as ye know that your victories are not in vain on FAF.

For if while we disagreed about the patch, we were reconciled in Supcom FA by the death of gpgnet, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we enjoy the game together.
Therefore, if anyone is on FAF, they are the new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new!

And I saw a new chat room and new maps: for Halcyon and playertrack have passed away; and there was no more replay vault.
And we, the followers of the spirit, saw the new holy place, the new 6v6 Setons, zooming all the way out as if an observer, prepared as a T4 wreak before a T3 ACU.
And I heard a great voice out of Aeolus saying, Behold, 6v6 games on 10x10 maps don’t lag, and we will play these maps, and they shall be our battlegrounds, and the map makers themselves will be among us, and make new ones. And as iron sharpens iron, so does one player sharpens the others’ skills.

And Trueskill will wipe away all tears from the eyes of those who wine about stacking; and there shall be no more 8/8 games with seven players, neither disconnects, nor lagging, neither shall there be any more noob bashing: for the former things are passed away.
And he that dwelled in Aeolus said, Behold, I will host a new game. And they said unto us, Join!: for your allies won’t lag and will know how to eco.
And we saw many games hosted. From Thermo to Setons to Rivers and all the versions of Isis, from the top to the bottom of the “find games” tab. And FAF will give unto them that thirst for the righteous path, live replays, the fountain of life for the noobs, freely.

Those that overcometh the death of gpgnet shall inherit all things; and we will be the game, and the community.
But the fearful, and the stubborn, and the vanilla players, and the 3599 addicts, and the stackers, and the laggers, and all the drama queens, and all the exploiters of any sort, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: Supcom 2.
