Congratulations! Even though we know what partly caused the recent surge in new players.

A question : how is this high number impacting the server? Let's say FAF reaches 4000 registered players, with 500 people online at the same time, will the server work the same? Or will it explode? And would it be necessary to switch to a bigger server?

I have no idea how this works, I'm just curious.

Most probably, the first thing that will fail is the livereplay feature.

Not because of CPU or memory consumption, but because of the amount of bandwidth needed. (we have 10 up /10 down)

For the moment, I think there will be no problem having 200 more players (almost 500 at the same time).

When I've coded the first iteration server (we are in the 500th range commit :), it was on a mono-core with 2 go of ram, and I had a 1000 players at the same time target (like TA Spring).

Presumptuous, but it help keeping the code as optimized as possible (if you read trueskill code, I put some comments with concerns about speed optimizations in the factorgraph).

Right now, I've got a little memory problem, due to some elements that are not cleaned by the python garbage collector.
Most probably some c++ elements not destroyed correctly.
I'm trying to run some profiling tools on that :)

This is good news. I think it's the way to go : optimize first, then upgrade if necessary. The bandwith may become an issue.
Just tell us if it requires additional funds to upgrade the bandwith.
I foresee a lot of players when the beta is over. And another wave, like a tsunami if Galactic War is finished and polished :D

Hopefully, I still can reload the two more important class without harm.

Some stats :

With our trueskill settings, the average level should be 1500.

And, there is in fact 65% of the players that have that rating (with a margin of 100, for those who knows statistics, it's under 1/5 of the standard deviation).

752 players are above average, and ... 1608 players under average.

Yes, they are 2x more "noobs" than pros : That's very good for the game !

That's also mean that the trueskill algorithm is working quite well..

(Be aware that your level is different that the rating displayed in the leaderboard)

Sadly no, the AiX rating is 1906.57 :)

But according to the stats, if you can beat a Ai : Rush, you can play even match with 60% of the online players. So don't fear trying !
