Question for those changing their usernames

Why do you do it? Ever since Zep enabled the facility to change your username every week, all I ever see is replays with a bunch of people with stupid usernames. Case in point is this Zap Brannigan replay:

AS you can see in the comments at the bottom, the player "Soviet Pride", a player who has only been around for a few months anyway, has gone through a series of smurf accounts, one being "moreflakneeded" and the other being "buildmoreflak". Now in no way am I picking on this particular player, but he is the epitome of the player who thinks it is "trendy" or "quirky" or simply "cool" to keep changing their username and confuse people watching the replay casts.

So is it for the reasons listed above or something I haven't thought of?

The example you have used changed his name for a different reason. He legitimately wanted people to build more flak because they kept dying too snipes in his teamgames..

This is exactly the kind of feature i think is cool and which i hate at the same time.

A part of me would like usernames to be fixed forever like on 99,99% of online games.

And a part of me like sometimes the humorous names.

But i must say after 2 years around on FAF that joke is getting (really) old and now i'm just tired of it (95% of me is, 5% still like the freedom of name changing).

I can forecast a debate swift quickly in a few posts.

I will be kind and save you the trouble just pick it up where you want :
- "but hey why do you care to know that BananaLOL is in fact root2342"
- "because i know this guy he is he noob that only does lame mantises spam with T3 eco ! As i know everyone, now, every good rated player i dont know i check his name to be sure who he is : that way i can balance my games and play better"
- "being anonymous and playing for fun was better, knowing how people will play suxxx and knowing it in advance ruins a part of the fun"
- "yeah Galactic War was so cool ! i loved the name stuff we were truly playing for fun back then"
- "totally dude ! like gpg ! good old times ! By the way rating suxx and it ruins the game to have so much stress around who plays how and balance"

I realy like to know against who i'm playing. So i look up the new names every week and i hate it. I would disable the name change feature but i feel
alone at this point.

In the past (when I knew how to play well ^^) , I had changed my name and created secondary accounts because :

- I was forbidden to play with galacticfear in the same team , apparently it was auto win. Actually this was THE reason I started changing accounts because it was getting out of hand. You can ask him, he probably remembers.
- I didn't want my opponent to know what kind of gameplay to expect (and on an overplayed map like setons it matters a lot). Details like "Does this guy goes for island? " - "Is he a rusher player?" - "Is he eco whore ?" - "what are his usual moves?" and so on
- I used to be often stuck with the worst players in the lobby because apparently it was balanced. After some time it just gets irritating.
- I was sick of the 30 min balance bla bla, and being anonymous helped

Number 1 reason; and none of the name-changers is going to say it; To get out from under a bad reputation with those that don't use the foe-list, but remember nicknames.

That page where you can put in a username and check it's history is a way to hard way to check it. There should be an option in Aeolus to just rightclick some nick and click "username history", just like you can click "View player statistics"

So you are doing it to get an unfair advantage, one more reason why it should be disabled.
