FA won't launch - tried alot - hopefully not all

Hi,

I used to play a couple of years ago back on GPG. After that I didn't play for a couple of years, and now recently discovered the game on steam again. put in my supcom key, and boom... both SC and FA were enabled. (great, as i lost my FA key)
I was able to play both on my old desktop PC (core 2duo).

Now i have a new (work)laptop - lenovo W530:
- core i7 - 3720QM
- 16GB ram
- quadro K1000M

But i am unable to launch my steam version of FA. While SC launches fine...
whether i click the supcom exe, launch it from steam, or launch it from faf, my mouse pointer changes for a couple of secs (like it is starting something), and then returns to normal. nothing happens..

After enabling the "save game logs", i see that no game.log is created in the C:\ProgramData\FAForever\logs directory.

What I've tried (searching around on various forums):
- install FAF and use that .exe
- put the .exe's in compatibility mode xp-sp2, xp-sp3
- run as admin
- install all C++ redistributables
- install directx
- update graphic drivers
- uninstall and clean everything (faf, steam and fa), and reinstall

Any help would greatly be appreciated.
I 'd love to get back into FA, especially as now on FAF, it seems quite alive (more alive then i remember gpgnet to be)

steam version is known to crash when having stuff like google desktop however, try to start the game by opening a replay from the replay vault and tell if that works

No google desktop here.

When i launch the replay, it lets me download update and/or maps, then i see a forgedalliance.exe for a few secs in the task manager, and then it's gone again.

Search in the forum, lot of people had that issue and solved it.

I actually already searched quite alot through the forums (this and others).
And indeed, alot of people have solved their issues by applying one of the actions i list above.
But my issue is not going anywhere, and i am running out of ideas, and out of forums to read.

So that's why i'm posting, and that's why my title is what it is.

I'll keep searching for a fix, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think someone fixed it by disabling aero.

Ok, been awhile as i haven't had much time to get involved again.

Although i enabled game.log, it doesn't get created, so i guess the process doesn't get really far...
