supcom 1 coop crashes

I really like playing "coop mode" by myself, because of the changes that FAF applies (and the ability to use mods). However, it seems the supcom 1 maps crash a lot (like, 99% of the time) on load. I almost never get past the commander spawning before it crashes (Once, it even crashed an instant after I clicked "launch game"). The strange thing is that it works fine on my laptop. But I'd very much like to play it on my desktop. It's easier.

I have supcom 1 installed through steam, and it is linked to FAF correctly.

I've tried disabling all my mods, including UI mods. It still crashes.
The weird thing is, it will work sometimes. I'll try to launch the game 20 times and on the 21st it works for no apparent reason.

I've also tried reinstalling FAF and verifying integrity with steam.

All the FA campaign maps work fine.

I'm using windows 7, i5 2500k, nvidia 580, 8 GB of ram, and a 256 GB SSD, if any of that matters.

And right after posting this, I tried enabling my UI mod and it just randomly worked. I have no idea... (This was my 7th or 8th attempt today on the same map - 2nd cybran supcom 1 campaign map)

I think I MIGHT have found the cause. If you launch the game before the in-lobby CPU tester has finished running, the game crashes. This doesn't happen often since normal multiplayer lobbies aren't launched in under 10 seconds :)

The lobby coders can work in a fix now :)
