Second monitor useful?

Hi all, I'm about finished building a rig and I was wondering if you all think using a second monitor is useful for supcom. (It should also be pretty cool for planetary annihilation as well methinks.)
Would adding a second monitor only require more resources from the GPU or the CPU as well? My rig has an intel 3570k and an evga 670 ftw. Should it be able to run a second monitor with about as good of performance as if it was only running one? Also, I can not quite recall whether the minimap only works on the official forged alliance maps or if it works on custom maps as well. Thank you all for your time.

2nd monitor is usefull, but ofc not nessesary ( i play with one having Lobbychat on the other)
minimap is broken on most of the custom maps

I apologize if I didn't make myself clear. Maybe I should've worded it as is using the natively supported dual monitor feature in supcom useful or do some find it distracting? and there shouldn't be performance problems

I liked having my 2nd monitor, but I crashed a lot when it was enabled.

Honestly I'm concentrating so hard on my first monitor I can't even glance at my second. Zooming out seems to be almost as fast as glancing at the other monitor.

Is it possible to use the split screen option and have each half on each monitor so you have one half always fully zoomed out as a map and the other to control units/micro etc

yes, if you split the screen, every monitor will get it's own split screen part

That's a pretty huge advantage i wonder how many 2k+ rated people have a second monitor setup

i have a 2nd monitor enabled. its helpfull but you really need to remind yourself to
use it ingame.
And i had the problem that there were lots of unhandled exceptions causing my game to freeze.( on my old pc)
i didnt have this problem anymore since i have a new pc now.
