How can I defend anything as Aeon?

Postby Valki » 07 Apr 2013, 19:58

It might be the new map pool, it might be because I'm higher rated and people can manage their artillery now...

but I cannot stand my ground as Aeon and therefore lose too many mass points nowadays.

I can defeat T1 units with Auroras, but only if I give ground.
Building T1 point defense everywhere is expensive and, as I said, pointless because there is always some arty around.

How should I hold mass points with T1 units?

Try to post a replay or two, then we will have a look.

sounds like you may be reateating to far,
But you may loose mass points anyway, but they cost less then 1 t1 tank, and enemy after his attack gives you pretty much reclaim

I haven't even tried to defend the mass points, all my recent replays show variouses (desperate) attempts to compensate for not having anything capable of defending.

That is a very good idea.

I will try to keep some engineers around, so I can lose masspoints while taking out his army... and then retake the points.
Thanks! :)

With Aeon you do everything before hand. You see a bunch of units coming towards your Auroras on the radar? Don't wait until his units are in range of your Auroras before moving them back, move them back now! Auroras are slow so they need the head start to keep their range. Then when the sector is clear you can move back in with your Auroras and lockoff the area with reinforcements. Aeon is about taking ground away from your enemy gradually step by step. You can forget raiding with Aeon, it doesn't work. Their tanks do big damage but have a slow rate of fire. If you try to raid you will lose units for little or no gain.

The turret speed for mantis is irrelevant as aeon : if the mantis is in range, you've lost your aurora, whatever the turret speed is.

You still have to anticipate because of the acceleration, but there is indeed a larger margin than before.
