Why should i keep playing

Postby Raidergx » 03 Aug 2014, 06:54

I'm a newb, I try to play a few ladder matches every night and lose every single one of them. Why should I continue to play even though i lose so often What incentive is there to continue on with all the losses I keep getting because its looking very grim for me and I honestly want to give up now (and before anyone says "watch your replays see what they do right and you do wrong" or "post a replay in the replay thread" replays don't help teach me anything I don't already know). I posted this in this thread because I want help with this problem since I'm a newbie

Maybe you should try playing some teamgames? They are stress free, and you are bound to win some!

Yeah come on and play team games ! (but not seton/rush me more, gap of rohan if possible please :D )
And sometimes they are also unranked games hosted so...

And I think most of the time 1v1 is harder than team game.

I don't find your nickname on the vault, can't see any replay :/

Playing this game and getting better is very rewarding. I understand the learning curve is quite steep (we've all been there) and I'm far from a good player, but I am at a level that I lose some and win some which makes this more interesting.

If you want to practice or you want some pointers you can always ask me in chat.

That is just sad to read :(
i was playing with friends in my town before playin ladder, and i was better than all my friends, but when i get to gpg-net in 2009 i lost 10 rankeds in a row.

Here is my advice: build at least 4 land factories and make t1 tanks from them for 5-10 min,
secure half of the map, use tanks and you acu for that
build 2-4 factories in your base with your acu before leaving base
build air factory and spam interceptros to protect from bombers and jesters
do not upgraide extractors to early
build all available t1 mass extractors and hydrocarbons as fast as possible
you will need to protect engineers that build them, use tanks and interceptors
if engyneer died, send another one immidietly
you may even have single factory making t1 engineers for whole game
if your engineers have nothing to do send them on patrol or attack move (alt+right click) to some wreck fields, forest, small rocks and other reclaim

do not forget to build radars and t1 pds surrounded by walls

after 10 min better already get t2 land and if you want you may get t2 pds t2 power shields tmd and tml

if you have no idea what to do, then scout and eco

Good Luck !!!

I learned the game by playing against bots. Yes, playing against humans is better i hear you say.
No.. not for a starter. Humans play different every game, with bots you know what you are at, which is extremely helpful when you want to learn the basics of basebuilding, eco and so on. Also, the bots show you that clustered pgens and pstorage is never a good idea :D
I think you can learn this game really well against bots, and its not as frustrating as it might be against other players.
Later, when you got some mechanics and have a better feeling for units and eco you can still start playing ladder and learn to adapt your playstyle against other players ;)
My suggestion is to play coop versus bots. Not with a pro, but with a friend, if one of yours plays faf, because thats more fun than playing it out alone ;)
I think for the start its very fun and rewarding, because bots allow you to learn and dont snipe you or do other stupid stuff :P
You just should not snipe them when there is another way to win ;) Play the game against easy/medium bots not to win, but to learn winning against better AI or humans ;)

A glorious death. It is a beautiful thing.

Take your ACU and stand in-front of your base, build a line of walls facing the enemy. Decide on witch side of it you will die.

by playing ladder games, your already doing the best thing to learn competitive FA.
trust me, I lost my first 20-30 ladder games with no joy at all, but carry on and youll get there.
eventually the wins started to come, and a few months later I had a 60% win ratio.

also, as a new player, the system is still "learning you" before it will match you with similar ranks.
just gotta keep up the grinding and eventually it will all fall into place.

re-assess yourself in a month or two, would be my advice.

I find that insulting when a game is stating me the obvious ("press X to open the door" the 20th time I see a door).

The first rule of ladder is attack. Become one with your ACU.
