UI Suggestions (Pics or GTFO)

Postby thygrrr » 27 Aug 2012, 19:08

Hi,

I want to improve the UI of FAF (the windows / chat client). It's pretty slick in some parts, and pretty meh in others.

Post your suggestions, but you MUST post a diagram / drawing explaining the UX (user experience) you want.

I waited ten years for Supreme Commander (1997-2007)
and have not a single day felt disappointed with it!

Before I get to drawing things like a dervish, I must ask: Is it possible for you guys to change the in-game UI, such as the very poorly designed Main Menu, and to change things in, perhaps, the Lobby room, Game options area, etc?

Yes, but this thread is for the Windows lobby. :-)
Alas, in-game UI changes are pretty difficult to do, so they'd probably be better contributed in code instead of concepts.

We could do with a standard avatar I think. Right now it just looks a bit weird with the gaps in the text.

As for ideas: the faction icons? Although they could also be awarded to winners of faction-specific tournaments.
I'd also like to see the map editor avatar for people who have uploaded maps (I'll upload an image of a map editor avatar when I've made one).

Considering to change to 40x20 avatars, just as a heads up (the space is there, but it might require 400 extra vertical pixels if we want small gaps between the items.

It'd be easier just to make a faint darker line at the bottom of each item.

They're 32x20 now, which doesn't seem to be much of a problem.

Anyway, the Avatar for map editing is attached.
