I noticed prior, that if I were to get "silent disconnect" from faf, the counter would stick to 0. This is because (I think) that the client is still ticking away to zero but getting no word from the server when it hits zero so it just stays. What the server probably does is is simply note the attack has expired, after getting no signal from the end of the countdown timer.
Hard to tell without access to the server source.
