Inorganic Mapping?

Postby MushrooMars » 25 Feb 2013, 00:20

I'm curious, would it be possible to make a model in Blender consisting of details for a map (metal walls, large human platform-like structures), import it into SupCom, and make a map out of it? The only way I could think of doing something like that is somehow making an invisible terrain texture.

But I have no idea how to map. Can anyone advise on how this could work?

Do you mean creating new 3d model platforms that units can travel/build on in game like this kinda thing?

the map CityWarsIII got maybe something you look for, but with own decals and textures, not new 3D objects.

You can add buildings/structures to maps from the props library so technically if you created a model you should be able to add it. The stone arch on Theta is a prop you can add to maps, It's just a textured 3d model you can rotate and place anywhere. You could line lots of them up in a row and even make a tunnel out of them. You can also adjust how high off the ground it is so if the arch has collision it might even be possible to build a base under them and use it as a roof that blocks bombs lol

To make structures that units can travel and build on i think would require pathing and all that jazz to make it work, not sure if that is possible. Would be cool though, we could add land bridges to rivers that boats can pass under and units can cross.

Edit: Just tested it, you can use many arches as a tunnel and build under them, but they are destructible and bombs destroy them. It does block the first bomb though :D

Well, really, what I want to do is make a map without the whole 'you are in a rural area far away from any large cities, or civilization in general.'

I mean, the intro movie in FA is a good example of something I'd like to do. You're on a gigantic suspended bridge in a spaceport. I wonder if SC2 maps are backwards compatible? Probably not...

As someone said already ,you can use the civillian buldings and the UEF civis would fit into that you're searching for.

I mean on a bigger scale than that. I want to have a battle on TOP of a building, not among them.

Well, you could "create" a bulding with the normal heightmap and add a custom decal.
