Noobish question about hotkeys

Hello!

So, since a recent updates i see that a lot of buildings and units have a hotkey assigned to them. But, I cannot figure out how to use them. Is there a modifier key that activates them?

I am aware that this is probably really silly to a lot of people. But I have never actually used hotkeys to build stuff before, only for things like OC, reclaim orders and so on.

Bonus question: How do I make a template for unit build queues?

You simply press the buttons that are being shown on the order/unit symbol. There are different colors for the hotkey labels for different button combinations. More information can be found in the hotkey label thread.
Also if you rebind your keys you have to restart the game since the hotkey labels won't update during the game.
