Connection to update server

Hello all together,
I have a slight problem with faforever. I won't connect to the update server. It is obviously a problem with my internet connection. I am working with a proxy server that blocks quite a lot of servers, so the update server might be blocked, however i don't believe in that, since general connection is possible and i am even able to find games( what's new e.g. is not working). In order to solve this problem (possible blocking), i am using VPN. But when i use VPN the programe is not even starting or logging in.
