New player not able to start the game.[fixed]  [SOLVED]

Postby bass93 » 02 Sep 2015, 15:17

I used to play Total annihilation and tought giving FAF a try.
I was able to launch the singelplayer trough steam yesterday to play the tutorial but it crashed while i got a call on skype.
today it won't launch on faf or steam. My screen flashes black and goes back to my desktop with the forced alliance icon int my taskbar, screen just flashes black everytime i click it.
The only error i get is when i start the game just after i boot my pc. it won't show after a second try.
error: "backup utility could not register to the system tray"
i have no idea what my backup software has to do with this game so i doubt thats the actual problem.

I know i could reinstall the game but if i do it trough steam it would just download again i suppose. as a student with limited internet i rather not do that.

edit:

i changed the compatibility options to windows xp service pack 2 and it appears to work

Before re-downloading via Steam, you can 'verify integrity of game cache'. That could fix a problem with the install.

After installing via Steam, launch it via Steam and create a profile. Close it and then start FAF. See if that helps.

Thanks for your help. I started redownloading the game last night before i saw this message. this didn't help so i decided to mess around with the compatibility options.
it appears to be working with windows XP service pack 2.

if i ever run into the same problem i'll try the verify integrity of game cache thing.

Great to hear, and welcome to FA. Curious problem you had, one that I have not encountered before.

If your problem is solved you may mark it as such by clicking the green indicator.
