I just had an EPIC phantom game also... 3 hours long.... EPIC... the reason this game platform was designed like this....

Power shifting back and forth.... the struggle was real!

HAS anyone figured out a way to fix a replay broken by a dead player leaving?

I can't imagine you can. A replay just copies what happens in the game. You cant change what happened in it after its already happened.

well my guess... is somehow the act of a player leaving... somehow causes the simulation to mess up.... no idea how or why...

How does an observer, that is dead... leaving the game, affect our units, and commands in a replay?

My best guess, something to do with player IDs in the replay file, and timelines? Like maybe the replay should continue to log a disconnected player as idle, instead of removing him from the records of the replay?

again i have no idea
