Bad Connection = you lag but not the other person?

Postby Morax » 05 Nov 2015, 22:53

I don't really like dishing out names but for some odd reason when I play Inquisitor in the 1v1 ladder my UI / ping / whatever gets to this "30 mins into a Seton's game" type lag where it's about -4 game play speed. It's happened to me with people in Australia and Asia before, but never someone in Europe.

He claims during the game he doesn't see any kind of a speed drop off which leads me to believe that folks who are behind are getting a live-action, real-time, while the other person slows down to keep the connection paced.

Is this the case? Does P2P connection code this with FaF? Or is this something wrong with my end?

How can one diagnose this issue?

NVM, I thought replays stored the connection stats, however during a game ren_shownetworkstats should tell you how fast he can run the game and such

What specific stat am I looking for? I know there is an indication of how many packets someone is behind but the text is so small I could never read all of it.

The simulation is synced between all players so the simlag is equal for all players.

The only instance where you would see "subjective" lag is if you have fps-lag, i.e. your computer doesn't keep up on the render/user-side of the game. In that case you would see units "stutter move" instead of smooth movement.

Who's the culprit of the -4 in the game? You or your opponent? If you're running a single-core CPU under heavy load it could also impact the render-side of the game.
