FAF causing instant shutdowns.

Postby Ryfun » 05 Jun 2016, 13:01

So I not met anyone else on faf that has this problem, but have had it for a little over a year so thought I should maybe start a thread.

I will be playing faf, and after an hour or after 5mins my PC just seems to die. The same effect as someone pulling the power cord out of the wall. This only happens when I play games in faf. More often on larger maps like seton's and Roanoak, and 95% of the time when I am zooming in.

As other background info I am running a raidmax 850W PSU, i7 2600, gtx980 and have played much more demanding games extensively and had 0 problems. All are running nice and cool when playing faf. Both cpu and gpu ~50/60 Celsius. My first thought was power supply given what actually happens to my PC but I can't see any problems with it.

As you can imagine, it can be infuriating after 1hr20 into a epic setons or 2mins into a ladder game to insta disconnect and loose ;_;

Any commentary or help would be appreciated.

Here is the logs I have from a recent instant crash. I can't find any replay id for the game because it was a 1v1. But when I have one in team games I'll add that one too.

I would also take a look at the windows event log (system, application), to see if there are any related error messages.

Sorry for the late response. Was going to check in a months time. That was fast. I'm not super tech savy so I don't know what I'm looking for in event logs. I never get any error messages when it happens so yeah...

i have the same issue. 90% sure it's overheating or overdrawing the psu. since i use a laptop i can't really do anything, but on a desktop it might be solvable. have you tried using diagnostics for temp or power draw?

eta: haha, serves me right for not reading past the first post. looks like a psu problem, probably.

@justify. I am dumb and could not make my PC boot from the usb I had put memtest on. However I found in my mobo bios a memory test than ran for 20mins with no errors.

@nocaps. Weird thing about psu is I used to run 2 gtx 560's (300W combined) of it and now run a 980 that only draws 160W. Another puzzle...

Could this be some sort of hard drive problem? You'll have to check it out
