messed up game menu

Postby SeraphimLeftNut » 29 Aug 2016, 23:55

While in game the drop down menu in the middle of the screen from the top is shifted to the top right corner and all the buttons are on top of each other. These cannot be clicked, but can be navigated using keyboard. This does not happen while watching a replay, only during an online game.

Looks like a modded nx2 file ???
please delete "c:\programdata\faforever\gamedata\*.*" and redownload it.

Where is the file "aeon_load.sfd" ? Its an original game file and should be there.
Reinstall forged alliance please.

Looks like something inside the UI is messed up. Maybe a mod like UI-party ?
Disable all mods and try again.

Big thank you for your reply and information. I have turned off mods and redownloaded the gamedata. I have replaced the sound files I removed, however I have never removed or modded the interface sound file. (I have removed the 5 files related to unit selection)

Also I would really not like to rework my hotkeys to avoid the ALT key. Please let me know if this is a big issue.

Unfortunately the problem persists. New log is attached

Well then lets try to get rid of this:
Code: Select all
info: c:\programdata\faforever\gamedata\units.nx2: duplicate entries for units/XSL0101/XSL0101_Script.lua.
warning: c:\programdata\faforever\gamedata\units.nx2\units\xsl0101\xsl0101_script.lua

Deinstall FA Forever.
Now the most important thing, delete manualy the folder:
Code: Select all
C:\ProgramData\FAForever

This is the only way we can be sure nothing is hooking something unwanted.

Now install FA Forever, start a game, post the log :)

[Edit] Keybindings are only an issue, if you are pressing keys :) Don't tuch those keys, and all is fine. (for testing)

Then we have 2 places to check.
Lets start with the game.prefs.
go to: "C:\Users\Hismoom\AppData\Local\Gas Powered Games\Supreme Commander Forged Alliance\"
Make a copy of Game.prefs and then delete it.
Start the game, ans check the drop down menu.

If this still don't helped,
Deinstall the maingame.
Important: after deinstallation delete the directory "C:\Program Files (x86)\THQ\Gas Powered Games\Supreme Commander - Forged Alliance"
Now install the game at the same place and try again.

If this doesen't helped, then we have a real problem :)

@speed2.
thanks, good to know.

Any thoughts about the main problem: ?
"While in game the drop down menu in the middle of the screen from the top is shifted to the top right corner and all the buttons are on top of each other."

Must be a hook or if this exist a false window positions inside Game.prefs, right ?

update on deleting game preferences.
I lost my hotkeys but didn't lose the original bug.
Also, the bug can not be reproduced when hosting a test game in FAF and playing a sandbox game with an opponent, only when I play ladder I see this bug.
I will wait for the next patch to fix this issue, don't want to reinstall the game, yet.
Will update with any new info

Did you make a copy of Game.prefs before you deleted it ?
Copy it over your actual game.prefs, and your hotkeys are back.

Even if you don't want to reinstall the game. At least take a look at:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\THQ\Gas Powered Games\Supreme Commander - Forged Alliance\gamedata\"

Look at the timestamp of all files.
They should be all the same (Installation date)

If you see a file with a different Date, maybe this is the cause.
