I broke my FAF

Postby zachyattacky » 03 Oct 2016, 01:26

I put together a new computer today, old one kinda was making me angry.... Anyway, got faf back on, try hosting a game to make sure everything works and to set up hotkeys etc... I notice when I zoom out the sounds don't go away. The game is playing every sound that's occurring all the time. Did this two games in a row, both times I get a debug log that says (see below). Any ideas? I'll get a different game installed and see if it works okay. I would hide the debug lines in a spoiler thing, but I don't know how lol.

I deleted about 80 lines of ----> "warning: SND: XACT3DApply failed. Invalid arg"

You got new headphones didnt you ;)

Set your audio stuff to stereo if they're not on that already

Same headset and mouse, everything else is new... I tried disabling surround sound in the Logitech software, and in the windows sound options, still does the same thing.

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7510 found a different post, someone else had the same problem apparently, doesn't seem to have been resolved.

Tried disabling headset in sound options, launch game, quit game, the log isn't there, but I still get a pop up saying a bug has occurred.

faf needs stereo as well as 16 bit audio. If that isn't the issue, do you have win 10 with a realtek audio chipset?

In that case i think a realtek driver update could be worth trying.

Good luck!

Yeah it is Windows 10 with Realtek ALC1150, I only did the disk that came with the mobo, I'll see if there is an update for the audio drivers.

Edit:

audio drivers are all up to date

I also tried renaming the 'sound' folder, that caused there to be no error message when I exit the game, obviously had no sound as well.

Just for the heck of it I went and got out my headset from 10 years ago, (I have no idea why I still have these) some cheap 10 dollar set with the 3.5mm jacks, plugged it in, and FAF worked flawlessly. So it must be something with my Logitech software not actually disabling the surround sound. I wonder why I never had a problem with it before... So I think you are right, it does have something to do with the stereo I bet. Thank you, I am pointed in the right direction at least now.

Add edit: So I tried changing my audio settings in my windows 'playback devices' and in my Logitech software, no matter what I do I cannot disable my surround sound lol. I pulled up a surround sound test thing on youtube and no matter what settings I choose my surround sound works perfectly.

Also, I cannot find anywhere to set it directly to 'stereo' either. In the Logitech software it just shows that the surround sound is off, and in the windows 'configure speakers' thing all I can do is uncheck certain speakers until only the left and right channel are allowed to play, technically it's still set on 7.1

The audio error lines that spam the log occur whenever you play FA with >2 audio output channels set up in your default device.

It's really annoying.

There's nothing anyone can do to fix it :(

To configure stereo, right click the speaker icon on the taskbar, go to playback devices. Select Speakers (Realtek bla bla) which should be your default output device I think, and click Configure. First panel, "Choose Your Configuration", click Stereo, then proceed. FAF should now work.

Also, virtual surround sound sucks. Just uninstall all the Logitech software completely :p

****Ignore this post****

Okay, so I don't remember the first time start up running (dx installer etc) when I installed FA the first time. I installed FAF and launched that tried to watch a replay, didn't work(because I had never launched FA I assumed), then launched FA from steam, started a map etc, then proceeded to go through FAF.

I wonder if that has something to do with it.

Fast forward to this morning
-I uninstalled FAF and FA, cleared the registry with ccleaner,
-Reinstalled, launched FA, again there was no first time set up

Now my menu is messed up with a blank background, and when playing a map none of the green mass extractor points show up when I'm zoomed out... (and the sound is stilled messed up)

I tried verifying the integrity of my game cache through steam, and it didn't find anything missing...

So I think it not performing the first time set up might be my problem...

Addedit: I think I'm going to pick up another hard drive and do a raid set up this weekend anyway.

I'll update after I reformat and do things in the proper order... Get FA running before I install FAF...
Thanks for the help so far guys I appreciate you taking the time help :)
