Unable to start game after faf update (both clients)

Postby Blast_Chilled » 25 Dec 2016, 23:24

Hello,

I have been unable to start FAF after the recent update because this file: faf-uid.exe keeps on being blocked by my internet security (Bullguard). Trying to restore the file has no effect. Any way around this other than disabling my security altogether?

faf-uid.exe will not harm your computer. Surely Bullguard has a way to whitelist it?

Getting the same issue. Don't have bullguard but something is preventing faf-uid.exe from being written. Even turning off all my antivirus software (bitdefender and windows default) changes nothing.

@Tya: faf-uid.exe should be installed to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Forged Alliance Forever\faf-uid.exe" by the installer. Nothing else should try to "write it". Please try to download the installer directly from https://github.com/FAForever/client/rel ... -win32.msi and run it (FAF must be closed).

Ok. I managed to get it working by stopping my security from scanning certain file locations. Seems to have fixed it. Thanks for the help :)

Just repeating what the error says. That's the language it uses. "Error writing to file: blahblah faf-uid.exe, verify that you have access". I have access, and run it as admin. The only way to avoid this error is installing to a fresh path (instead of the previous install path), but even then the client won't work so I guess it's still an issue.

So this error happens in the installer?

Yeah. 0.11.60 installs fine but updating it to 0.12.0 just refuses to happen.

Even then, sometimes the error doesn't show and the install works fine, but the client itself is just dysfunctional after the update. I'd screenshot it but I can't get the installer to work at all anymore. This occurs even if all antivirus/windows junk is disabled.

Please try the following:

1. Uninstall FAF
2. Delete anything left of "C:\Program Files (x86)\Forged Alliance Forever"
3. Directly install FAF version 0.12.0 (Download from https://github.com/FAForever/client/rel ... -win32.msi )
